Bob Mayer takes 3rd straight LG Motorsports V8 GT2 Title
Bob Mayer picked up his third straight LGM V8 StockCar GT2 Championship with a win in the feature ARRC championship race and a second place in the Friday 6 lap sprint race. Mayer won the ARRC race over Jeff Dernehl in his fast tube frame Mazda RX7 and Chris Ingle in his C6 Corvette. Coming home fourth overall and third in the SCCA STO class was ED Lewis. Mayer, Ingle and Lewis were all in Corvette's prepared by Sam Power of CrossRoads Motorsports.
Dernehl won the Friday sprint race capitalizing on Mayer's misfortune when on lap 5 of 6, Mayer was balked by two backmarkers. Mayer had to slow considerably to avoid contact, while Dernehl found an opening to scoot through. Dernehl then narrowly held off Mayer to the checker.
During the weekend, Dernehl set a new lap record for the LGM V8 GT2 class with a 1:28.2 clocking. This is nearly two seconds under the SCCA GT2 standard which the car is built to.
Lewis put his LG Coilovers to good use, clocking his best times ever at Road Atlanta.
