Default If you do oil analysis please post.

I was thinking of doing a "baseline" on my 45k ls6. Fresh oil in now.

How many miles do I put on b4 I draw a sample?

Who do you use?

Blackstone, other?

I'd wait until your next oil change unless you think there's a problem. I use Blackstone; call them and they'll send you a sample kit free. Take the sample hot, mail it off, and wait a couple of weeks. Not only do they give you the numbers but also point you towards things that look out of line.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I use Blackstone. Wait till your next normal change interval then send in the sample. Get them to analyze the oil addative levels too. You might be surprised in that you are changing the oil too soon and wasting $. I used to change after every second event, but based on the analysis moved that to three events and still maintain a substantial margin of oil and addative life.

I don't bother... would give me one more thing to worry about. I change the oil every 3-4 track weekends with a fresh filter and let it ride. Personally, I run the cheaper Amsoil XL 10w40 (they have fancier versions that cost more) and a K&N filter.

Plus, my particular car uses about a quart per day on track so over 3-4 events I'm typically adding 6-8 quarts of fresh oil.

Terry Dyson at www.dysonanalysis.com
He is a tribologist and an ex-racer and will fine tune your lubrication needs. He uses Blackstone or one of the other labs and will adjust the lubricant to better suit the application. I have used his services and highly recommend him.

Yes Blackstone. You have to have at least 2000 miles on the oil to get a legit sample. Best to take sample at your oil change (end of oil life).

I don't think you really need an LS6 baseline. Blackstone gives you averages for the LS to check yours against.

do a full test (TBN) and they will email you results in 2-3 days. I was told from a few test my car can go over 4,000 track miles. That was on M-1. 10W-30.
