Default C5 Z06 rear tub

Been working on taking lots of parts off my car and it looks like the rear tub will need to be replaced as it got smashed up pretty good in the wreck. Does anyone sell the rear tubs?

I've never taken that part off a vette before so I'm still trying to learn more about it.

I got my C6 rear tub off of a Corvette recycler on eBay.....same guy I got my frame from....http://showmewrecks.com. It is glued on, so it is fun to get off...my "new" one is bolted on for ease of removal.

Marc,

Can you tell us some tips of how to break the epoxy bond without destroying the tub? Is there a special powered putty knife kind of tool that is sharp that can be pushed through the epoxy to section it?

The key to removing the rear tub or your rocker panels is to heat the frame rail with a torch. You only need to heat it until you start to hear the epoxy making a crackling sound. This is when it is releasing the bond from the frame. Pry very gently and use paint stir sticks (Get the free at Lowes) to wedge between the tub and frame. It creates a lot of smoke so we do ours outside the shop with the front end loader. Be sure to wear some type of HEPA Respirator. The fumes will cause terrible headaches.

Hope this helps.

Unless it's way worse that the part I could see at the track, just get some fiberglass mesh and resin and fix what you have. Doesn't have to be perfect.

x2. Vettenuts is about 30 minutes South of Jerry's shop and are def. good people. I've had a few things on the C5Z and LS1 RX7 that I've had to replace while at the shop on a Saturday. Very nice being able to give VetteNuts a call and jump in the truck and have what I need in an hour or two! I know Jerry, Richard, and all the other guys at the shop and the local area are glad to have Vettenuts in close proximity!

The powers that be, are looking at the "floorpan rules" regarding Corvettes. (It started with Mustangs) The trunk area is "floorpan", including fenderwells. I do not know how "perfect" they require. You might want to ask.

Marc made me a good deal on one of the tubs he has and maybe some more body panels. I probably could fix this one, but I'm going to do this right and build it back better. I figure I'll be down a few months, so might as well... I'm excited to see what it'll look like

I have repaired light damage to some coupes and the first one i did the RR quarter panel gap at the door never was right. You have to get the repair area perfect otherwise it will show up on all the body panels. After several cars i started replacing the tub to insure proper alignment.
