Default C4 BS tires

Last year due to frustration with finding 16" tires that fit my 87 I bought 17" wheels and tires which bumped me into BSP.

I'd like to go back to BS. The Kumho Ecsta XS comes in 265-45-16 which I'm told should fit and would be acceptable in BS. It looks like they are "special order" which I suspect means that I can't actually get them.

Any other suggestions for "street" tires either 16" or 17".

I didn't think that that mod would put you in BSP. Was there an optional 17" wheel available in that year? If so that might allow you to run them in BS. I have heard good things about the kumho XS tires though.

I don't know what SCCA rules are for tire sizes. If you can fit whatever size can fit on the rims, the 265s will work great. I run that size on my 16x9.5" c4 wheels on my 73.

17" didn't come on the vette until 87. In 87 the standard car had 16x8.5" and the Z51 had 16x9.5"

If you are looking for DOT race tires, Kumho V710 in 265 and Hoosier A6/R6 in 275 are about the only choices. I am still running the Kumho Victoracer V700s, but they have discontinued them. I think you can get some Hancooks in a 255, but most everything else only comes in 245.

As for a sticky street tire, the XS is hard to beat. They should be available by next autocross season. Keep an eye out for them and order them when you see they are stocked.

17x9.5" wheels with 275/40-17 tires first appeared as an option on 1988 C4's. The 17's were standard beginning with the 1989 cars.

Finding suitable 16" tires could be a problem if the B-Stock rules require a stock size wheel.

Sorry, I did mean 88 in my previous post.

84-88 16X8.5 rims had 255/50/16 tires
85-87 16X9.5 rims had the same size tires
88-91 17X9.5 rims had 275/45/17 tires

I don't know much about SCCA rules, but in NCCC street tire class you are still able to run the 17x9.5 wheels because they came on a car in that class - 1SE.

Tire rack available 255/50/16 tires
BFG G-force Sport - Good for street, but not great for autox - had these on my 98 camaro. Only actuall street tire available.
Hankook ventus Z214 - cheap dot race tire - never run these
Hoosier A6 - Best autocross tire out there
Hoosier R6 - Not as good as the A6, but will last a little longer
BFG and Hoosier Drag Radial - Probably not great for autocross due to soft sidewall, but don't know for sure.

265/45/16
Kumho Ecsta V710 - I have run these and they are good tires. Very close to hoosier A6, but will last a little longer also.

275/45/16
Hoosier A6/R6

275/40/17 - 33 different tires available on tire rack. Heres some of the better ones
Sumitomo HTR Z - Very cheap tire, but doesn't do too bad in the autocross
Kumho ecsta XS - Best street tire for auctocross
Kumho Victoracer V700 - On closeout - I normally run these in 16" size, but they are being discontinued. Last a long time. I usually get 1+ seasons out of them.
Hoosier A6/R6 and Kumho V710 - see above

Not sure where you are from but I found these on my local craigslist (binghamton NY) and 16's won't fit my vette. I'm not sure how old they are but they might be worth looking into. Hoosier A6's mounted on factory 16" wheels http://binghamton.craigslist.org/pts/2759674554.html
