Default LS 7 maintenance question

I am planning to do my winter pre season maintenance on my C6Z. it is a track car. I am curious (so i do not miss anything important) what you guys would reccomend in terms of motor maintenance other than the obvious, change oil, clutch fluid brake fluid. Is there any preventative maintenance that I should doing to the motor or should be aware of.

Thanks
Tom

how many track days?

At 20 days I just did a compression test, checked the heads, replaced the springs and changed the timing chain.

One thing the Owner's Manuals for 2009 and newer Zs state is change diff fluid after 24 hours of track duty. Not just once per year but after each 24 hours of duty. If you are doing 20 track days per year with an average of 2 hours per day that means change it twice per year. Previous to 09 GM didn't mention changing diff fluid other than when required by the normal maintenance schedule. Since they didn't change any parts I suspect it would be wise to follow their advice if your Z is older than an 09.

Don't forget to lubricate your rear tie rod ends after each track day (recommended in all C6 owners manuals for Z51/GS/Z06/ZR1).

Yes

Well - mostly!

On the base C6, only the Z51 optioned car has zerk fittings.

All GS, Z06, and ZR1's have the zerk fittings for greasing the rear tie rod/ball joint

Check for worn valve guides - if you are replacing springs that would be the time to do it. I've found worn out guides on motors with less than 10k miles. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks guys. The motor is relatively new approx 5,000 miles on it - mostly all track. I manage about 10 events per year. I grease my rear tie rod ends regularly, flush clutch fluid regularly, and oil change ever 3 track events.

Should i be concerned about oil breather lines or any other oddities?

Most tracked C6Z's go through the stock front wheel bearings quickly. If they are loose replace with ZR1 bearings.

I think at some point GM upgraded C6Z bearing to these.

I looked in your profile and it says your car is a 2007.

You indicate that your engine is new.

When the new motor was installed, was the dry-sump oil tank upgraded???

I have a stock 2006 Z06 and still have the original oil tank, but I don't run any tracks where I'm in the oil pressure spike zone.

If you run tracks with long left-hand sweepers where you sustain more than 1 lateral G for more than 4 seconds, you can experience oil pressure spikes, and you might consider upgrading to a larger 2009 tank if it hasn't already been done.

Take a look at Dreamin's thread with hard data on the problem:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...hard-data.html

BTW, when tracking my '06 with its original small size oil tank, I always run the oil level at least 1/2 way between the center dot and the min level on the dipstick - any more than that and I get oil in the intake.

Default ls7 maintenance

The when the motor was build an aviad stage III oil system was installed with an upgraded internal pump as well as an external pump. SKF bearings were installed 5 track days ago.
