Oil consumption Question LS 7
I have a rebuilt 2007 LS 7 with upgraded internals, valve train Aviad oil sump etc....
On a typical HPDE day my motor will consume (not burn) approx 2 quarts of oil. I do not blow any smoke at all.
What do others typically consume?
I run in advanced groups so the car is pushed pretty good.
thanks,
Tom

Typical use on an LS engine is about 1 quart per day. My LS7 did the same except when I had an oil leak then it would drip oil quite liberally. With the oil leak the consumption went over two quarts per day.

My 80K mile Z06 will consume ( ie burn ) 1 to 2 qts. per HPDE day.
I also thought my car did not smoke at all.
Take your car out on the street and have someone follow you. Take it to 6800 in first (legal speed) and when you shift they will tell you it did smoke when you lifted.
Get back to me with the results.

Burning Brakes
You may see slightly more oil usage with forged pistons depending on the rings installed. I did not see much of a difference, if any, from the stock build before she blew.

My original motor was using around 1 qt per day (2 hours), sometimes more depending on the track.
My new motor with 8K and 3 track days did not use ANY oil on my last two events.

The internals I have are:
Forged pistons, coated – Mahle
LS7 ti rods with upgraded ARP 2000 Bolts
King “race Series”bearings
Akerly & Childs rings (steel Moly inlaid top, Napier second)
Aviad Stage III oil sump system.
When I meant consume I guess I am referring to blow by. Perhaps I am burning oil but I would think i would see it at higher RPM's as C6 Z06 mentioned - i do not see any smoke at all and I have tested this a few time at high rpms.
I do have a small oil drip coming from my oil pan. Could this be the culprit. Does pressure build here enough to make the small drip more excessive?
