Default WTB used front disc brake pads

I am in need of two old used front disc brake pads for a C5. No lining required. I want to use the backing plates for shims. I am in the process of putting front disc brake calipers on the rear of my C5.

PM me your address and I'll send you a set of old pads from the wife's C5.
When you get them if you want just send me a ck or MO for the cost of shipping.

Am I the only one who thinks that stock backing plates are waaay to thick to use as shims?

Thank you very much for the offer. Someone is sending some pads.

I am using front C5 calipers and brackets and C6 Z51 13" rotors on the rear of my C5.

The front calipers are too wide for the rear rotor thickness. The outer brake pads are inboard farther than I like.

I think by using brake pad backing plates between the outer brake pads and the caliper, the caliper will be moved outward moving the caliper pistons into the piston bores an equal amount.

Does this make sense to you?
I think if you could see what I am talking about, you would agree with what I am doing.

I am open to ideas.

I think I get it, using the thick shim on one side only? To center the caliper on the rotor?

That is exactly the idea. I will clean, smooth, and paint the "shim" piece.
I have enjoyed viewing your Facebook videos.

Thanks,

Which side needs the shim, piston side or non piston side? I would probably tack weld together or at least put a bunch of that orange anti squeal glue between them.

The shim goes between the outer brake pad and the caliper. This will move the caliper outward , pushing the two caliper pistons inward the same amount. The caliper will be pretty much centered over the rotor.

Results of this experiment will be interesting.

Thank you for your interest.

Maybe document your project & post it up.

Will you track the car hard, or is this for looks?

Any concern on being able to tune front/rear bias?

The plan is to track the car hard in both low speed and high speed autocrosses. ( NCCC ) Mostly in the Midwest.

And, Yes, there is also the bling factor.

Tuning the front/rear bias remains to be proven.
With ABS, Active Handing, and Traction Control, I am optimistic.
Pedal-to-the-metal and hang on.
Lots of " nay-sayers ".

I am participating in a practice autocross day at a local 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile race track April 21. I can get in 20 to 25 runs for testing.

There's no harm in trying stuff out. These cars are not "perfect" when they roll off the line. Compromises have been made. The old time hot rodders couldn't leave stuff alone. Works for me.
