did two 20-25 minute sessions yesterday.
First time with catch cans. Last year I had all that oil dripping down my air filter/front bumper. Much better / cleaner this way.

I recently added a 2nd catch can for my passenger side valve cover. The catch can is overflowing at the end of each session with a stock LS6. In fact, I came in after 4 qualifying laps and it was full . I don't know why it has so much blowby pressure or how much is "normal". I plan to do a leak down test.

The BMW OBDII PCV has an oil separator which directs the gases into the intake and which directs the separated oil into the sump, at a tee in the dipstick housing.

It's a pretty good setup, although I suppose it could lead to a higher level of contaminants (some acidic) in the oil.

I don't get much oil at all into my two catch cans. I have one on the main PCV line with the PCV valve still in place and one on the passenger side valve cover fresh air feed line. That said, mine's a 2001 so it eats about a quart of oil a day on track.

I just installed a rx catch can in my c5z today. I'm thinking maybe I should get the valve cover breather or add another can. That's a lot of oil coming from the valve cover.
What brand cans are you using? Do you have pics of your setup?

Had that problem. Discovered the baffles where our of the valve covers.

New covers withe baffles and an new PVC valve {?} and with four sessions last week we had about a cup.

Pretty sure it was the baffles.

This is interesting to me, as I haven't lost any oil from what I can see visually, and I just recently did two days at Homestead with the car running double sessions. I use Mobil1 5W-30, and change it before every event. I run an external oil cooler and put a quart over in also, for a total of nine quarts.

Is there something I am missing by not noticing this?

i have a DRM oil cooler with big setrab 625 cooler and mobil 1 5w-30 with a little extra for protection. If you don't get the oil in the catch cans, i wouldn't worry at all. Not all cars do this. Maybe differences in ring sealing, motor dependant?

Much better to have it in the can than in the intake system. Mine used to fill up after 2 sessions, cover my rear bumper and even blow out my breather cap. Started using only 1/2 qt extra oil per track day and now I get only tblspoon per session. I also run 3 qt accusump w/35# valve. I still check mine religiously after each session.

Yes, I think so. Some engines have more blowby than others. I have 2 LS6 engines and one of them produces a table spoon of oil per session in the catch can. The newer one produces about 1/2 quart per session overflowing the catch can.

I checked my valve covers and they have baffles. Apparently there are 2 types of baffles. One has an aluminum baffle running along the inside of the valve cover with a hole toward the rear. The one in my 2001 LS6 has a plastic divider/baffle right under the port. Not sure which one is better, but I assume the aluminum baffle is since it's in the newer LS6 engine.

Catch cans takes much of the oil out of the circulated crankcase air.
