Non-permanent racing numbers?
Hi guys –
I’ll be doing NASA TT this season and need numbers but would like to avoid permanent ones since I drive on the street.
Are there options out there that stay on the car at 150 mph yet are easy to put on and off?
Thanks!

Reach out to David Farmer, I always get my HPDE numbers from him and he always does a great job.

I use reusable Vynl from solo performance. Just got a set 10" tall #s for about $50 +/-
I leave them on all season and they hold up just fine.

Check out Kar Kare web site. They supply stick on vinyl numbers for dealerships. Have 8 and 10" tall sizes at very reasonable prices They are about $15 for a package of 10 individual numbers. 2 packages - one of each number I use lasts me about 2 years of track days. Hold fine at 140+ at VIR and use them 3-4 events before new ones.

Cut your own from contact paper if you're really cheap like me. Mine have lasted over 2 years.
Bought it at Lowes.

it's a lot of work doing TT with removables. Numbers and classes all around, thats a lot of individual digits to carefull remove and keep clean. I can help, as well as the other sources mentioned, but I think the best plan is to leave them on the car for at least the season.
Just to share, I know that myself and at least some of the suppliers have to layer the vinyl for removable. The low-tac vinyl is too flimsy by itself, and it will stretch when you remove it. I overlay a permanent color layer over the black removable to help avoid this. However, it still take patience and care to get them on and off in good shape.
Like the contact paper solution (one I also use at times) we could make up a seasons worth of single-layer low-tac digits in black, and you could just dispose of them at each event. Depends on your budget and how much time and effort you can afford!

David - I ordered my stuff thru you yesterday. Looking forward to getting the product and happy to support a fellow enthusiast.

I went to replenish my stash from Walmart the other day and the bins were empty but they still had spaces for it. Buck a roll stuff is what I'm talking about.
It cuts and applies just like vinyl. You have to mask the top, apply, then pull the masking off. This approach may work for removing the reusable vinyl too. Mask over it before you pull it off.

Even with the permanent numbers, they are easily removed at the end of the season. Make sure to have a good clean surface before applying the numbers. Also a good coat of wax that has had ample time to dry is good. I cut numbers for my dad and he runs them for the entire season and then peels them off before storing it for winter.
Contact paper can be left on the car for a couple of weeks, but not much longer. I've left it on my car for a month once and it was a PITA to get off. Had to use a razor blade to get it off. My cars do sit outside in the sun and weather though.
David, where do you get your reusable vinyl. I've been searching for some but haven't found any good material. How much more expensive is it over the permanent vinyl?

Local business just made me decals with 10" numbers on a lemans type oval background for $20 for the set. I will peel them off in a couple of years when I change the Quartermaster clutch for one that I can drive on the street.

Here are some examples of David's low tac vinyl in use on my Camaro. You do have to be careful to put it on and off, but I have used it several times and they still look great!

Yes, they come off easily and leave little or no residue. I use Micro Soft Word and insert Word Art numbers that allow me to choose the fill color, outline thickness, and size. I've been using this set up for years and it cost about $0.25 per letter all told.
