Default Crane Cams V8 StockCar Series returns to Carolina Motorsports Park

The Crane Cams V8 StockCar Road Racing Series returns to Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carlina on March 31 & April 1 for the first time since 2008. The Series will be running with the South Carolina Region SCCA at their Buck Muse Memorial event. CMP, an entertaining 14 turn, 2.3 mile circuit located about an hour south of Charlotte is a favorite of club racers in the south with its' combination of fast sweepers, elevation change, heavy braking zones and a back straight where the fastest GT's and stock cars can hit around 160 mph. The CMP owners and staff have done a fine job of improving the facility that they opened in 1999 on the site of a former World War II fighter training base.

CMP will be the third round of the 2012 season and with it some new faces and some old ones returning. Dave Machavern will make his season debut after missing the first two rounds due a non track related injury. Machavern, the four time Porterfield Enterprises V8 GT-1 champ and the winningest driver in the series history will be wheeling his Riggins Engineering silhouette Ford Falcon featuring power from Lee Schwartz' FlowTech Racing Engines. Mac will have his hands full though as Palm Beach winner Simon Gregg is expected in his Derhaag Motorsports Corvette. Gregg took the Sunday race at PBIR over tough competition from fellow Corvette racer Charles Wicht, destroying the track record in the process. Chapin, South Carolina's Wayne Cabaniss will be on hand in his C4 Corvette sporting a fresh mill and Shelby North Carolina's Dave Greer will bring out his venerable C3 Greenwood type Corvette.

In the LG Motorsports V8 GT2 class, look for Maysville, NC's Steve Epley to lead the pack. Epley and his C6 Z06 have multiple wins on the tour. Epley should get a challenge from Florida's Tom Vlasack in his 911 Porsche.

The Pitboxes.com V8 SPO class should be a shootout between two time class champ Larry Hoopaugh, Grovetown, Georgia's Randy Gay in his super late model Monte Carlo, Hilton Head Island SC's Tad Segars in his similar car and Mickey Wright in her ex Nascar Cup ride. Points leaders Bob Mitten will miss this event before returning at Daytona allowing the others to make up some ground.

Two time Howe Racing V8 GTA champ Randy Walker will battle for class honors with 2011 Roebling winner Bill Porter, Georgia's Ricky Sanders, plus newcomers Garry Creed from Mount Airy, NC and Joe Hartsell hailing from Lancaster, SC. Walker and Sanders had a great, competitive race at Sebring, look for more of the same at CMP.

The Crane Cams wishes to thank its' parterns for their support, and they are:
