Default Radiator opening for a splitter?

After you guys installed a splitter with under tray, how did you cut the bumper to add more air? Did you slice it on two sides and fold it back? Cut it off entirely? I need some pointers since I'm at this stage now. When I get done, I'll post pictures.

thanks,

Steve A.

I think most people buy an aftermarket front bumper that is designed for a splitter/undertray and has an opening for the radiator molded in already. However, if you are making your own then I would use custom duct work and baffles. Maybe use the 2 front screens and the license plate cover area and force air through the radiator from those locations.

Here's a pic from my car with the acp front bumper:

I cut my section out completeley. just make as many templates as needed to make sure you have the shape right then mask things up and make the cut. One tip that will keep your paint from peeling is to install door edge trim to the edge of the cut that you make.

LOL if I wasn't holding my 1 week old i'd post some pics of mine for you

If you just cut it, what do you seal up the hole that your left with? Maybe someone can post a picture of that area.

thanks again,

Steve

What hole would that be?

I have a full under body front diffuser I made out of 3/8" Lexon.

If you mean the area or hole from the sides of the front opening to channel up into the radiator area, Yup Duct tape would work.

Again here I use some 3/8" lexon and cut it to the size I needed and used lexon glue / silicone.

Something I have also noticed when driving in the wet or rain, water does pool on the splitter. So I drilled two 1/4" holes where the water pools, to let the water drain out through the bottom of the diffuser.

If I cut out 24" of bumper, doesn't it leave an opening where it use to screw into the radiator shroud? I believe the air would go into the area where the air cleaner would be.

thanks,

I also failed to mention that this is for autocross. Do your really think I need a bigger opening? I can try it first on the street I suppose, before the next race.

thanks,
I asked this before and never really got a good answer. I think once its cut you just have to fab up some ducts on your own

I looked at your thread on your splitter. How hot does it run?

Here is mine

But do you really need a splitter for auto-X ? or is the splitter to push the cones out of the way as some one once mentioned?
