Default c5 engine swap question

I've searched here and at ls1tech for the answer to this question: if I decided to drop a ls2 or ls3 engine into my 99 frc track car would the stock ls1 computer be able to run the motor? I realize I would have to change out the reluctor; I'm assuming the reluctor would be very simple to swap out.
TIA

Should be able to just run the converter box from Lingenfelter and leave it.

Ls1 seems rife with bad converter stories. Does just changing the reluctor cure the problem?

#1: I don't know the answer to your question.

That said, I can't see why it couldn't. Engine control systems are pretty mature, as long as you're not changing engine configurations (i.e. V8 to V6, GM to BMW, etc.)

I think the biggest issue you might have is connectors. For example, your '99 PCM has a separate MAF and IAT, I expect the LS2 to use a combined (i.e. 5-wire) unit. But as long as you use the same sensors you did on your '99 that wouldn't be a problem.

So, I think it would work. However, I don't think it would be as PNP as a LS1 would be.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

You have to take the bottom end apart to change the reluctor wheel. The older C5 PCMs have less capability than the later ones, but it should be able to run the engine just fine.

I have a ls3 in my 02 c5. Pcm runs it fine. Just change the reluc wheel. Also, if you run the ls3 intake you will need the injector jumpers and also the cam sensor jumper on the timing cover. Also need the harness for the knock sensors as they are on the outside of the block on a ls3. Katech has all the parts.

I am rebuilding my LS1 right now and getting a 24X reluctor wheels was one of the big problems. My understanding from Callies is that when GM went belly up they quit making them. When they came back into production some the specs where not quite right. Callies has found several deficient reluctors. Callies is sourcing a billet reluctor now to fill the void. They also indicated that taking an old one off your existing crank is difficult and typically damages the reluctor wheel.

The cam sensor is also an issue. The new cam sensors use s 4X and the old cam sensors use a 1x. You may need to check into that.
