Default C5 Brake Upgrade

I have a 2001 which I put front dual piston calipers and 13" rotors on the rear. Nice upgrade.

What is a logical reasonable cost front brake upgrade? What is the C6 or C6 Z06 front caliper upgrade for C5s all about? Is it possible to retain 17" wheels up front for street use ( Either thin spoke or C5 Z06 wheels) with this upgrade?

I use 18" C5 Z06 on four corners when autocrossing or tracking.

For the C6 upgrade the 17" wheels are too small. Also, as far as upgrades go if you're going to track it I wouldn't recommend the C6 brakes. They are heavy and have a lot of unsprung weight vs an aftermarket brake kit.

On a C5 I would look into either the AP1, Stoptech, or Wilwood kits.

Have you driven the car with the larger piston area fronts on the rear? I have heard this messes up the bias and you accually get less performance from them.

Take a look at LG's Wilwood package. Radial mount 6 piston. I've been running them for a year now. Nice thing about that radial mount is two small nuts and the caliper is off. Makes changing the rotors out a breeze. (I swap track vs street rotors & pads after every track weekend). The pads are 0.8in thick! all with stock wheels and rotors.

Roger, how about upgrading your brake pads?

I like the Wilwood Package......I have the Wilwood LG 6 Piston Fronts, and the SL4R 4 Piston Rears. I use stock Z06 wheels 17/18s.

This set up worked great on the track. And is for SALE!

To answer your question, yes, I have driven the car quite a little since the rear brake upgrade. I have also autocrossed the car 22 runs and tracked the car at Mid America Motorplex on the 2.2 mile road course for many hard, fast laps.

There were some "nay-sayers" when I did the rear brake change.
The change in braking is not huge, but works flawlessly.
