What are you using for data/lap times?
I tried the trackmaster app the last 3 track days, and got tired of the constant headache with the bluetooth connection, and the battery in the GPS antennae constantly overheating in this hellish NJ heat we have been having. Bottom line is I need to spend the bucks and get a proper data logger. I was thinking traqmate but over the weekend some guys told me the AIM solo sytem is great and it plugs into the OBD port? What are you guys using, and how do you like it? I'd like an in car display for lap times, and would like to log things like RPM and oil pressure.

I use the race-keeper system. www.race-keeper.com
It uses an iphone or itouch to display lap times and other variables.
Video and data synching is so easy (it’s automatic); way better than other systems I’ve used.
Holds up to 4 cameras. Easy to use split/segment timing and theoretical best laps.
Has OBDII hookup to log useful data.
If you use smandel coupon code at checkout, you get a free camera ($175 value).

if you use a motec ecu, you can capture oil pressure:
http://www.race-keeper.com/files/Rac...er%20Guide.pdf
But i don't use that in my stock z06. i just use the OBDII cable and i get the RPM's and water temps, air temps and a bunch of other parameters.
for oil pressure: You can log analog sensors, and display as a raw 0-5v graph. As long as you know the calibration for the output of the sensor you can work out the actual pressure. The sensor should be a 3 wire device with 0v, 5v and signal connections. Not something I use though.
Here's a sample video using the export function:

When you are using the system on your laptop, there are more functions that what the video above shows.
If you will be at NJMP on aug 4-5 (or pocono this weekend), i can show you the goods

I use the AiM Solo (non-DL) and for the price, couldn't be happier. If you need more data acquisition then you'll need to spend at least 4 times as much. See signature for some videos with data overlay using Dashware.

Me too. The Solo is great. Really easy plug and play with powerful software included. Battery powered so you don't even have to power it in the car. I haven't tried doing data overlay. I'll have to look into Dashware.

Just yesterday I bought the Solo DL and mated it with my Smarty Cam. Peter Krauss used one of my sessions in his RaceCraft class I took with him, the info available for use with my C6 is much more than I will ever use but in his hands it was really something.
So C5 guys with this will this unit not work in my 02c5z?

It will work as a standalone unit or with the Smartycam but you will not get much from the OBDII connection, if at all. Still better than nothing, but I would have loved to get throttle, brake and steering sensors as well as pressure and temps...

I havent had time to down load it onto my computer yet and view, however the information he was playing with was really impressive..........this is coming from a guy who still lives in the stone ages.

I just bought a SmartyCam and have it setup. Heading down to Barber tomorrow. It gets speed, throttle, braking, track position and all that from either its GPS and/or 3-axis accelerometer. The OBD-II functions are not supported on any C5 (LS1 or LS6), only the C6. You could hardwire the tach into an external adapter if you know where to tap in.
The nice thing is the SmartyCam keeps it simple since it overlays data onto the video as it records and it is a camcorder. I downloaded the tracks I care about into it. So as soon as I get to the track I can supposedly just turn it on and go. There is nothing to muck with after. It also stores all the data which can be loaded into the Race Studio software for analysis.
We'll see if I still think it's nice after a couple of weekends of use. They aren't cheap for sure...

Right now I am using the DL1 from RaceTechnology with a Dash3 Display. This is a serious Datalogger capturing everything a racer would need and the analysis you can do with this is insane. At first I just wanted something simple to use (Laptimer) but I am getting used to the DL1 and actually enjoy going through my data. The reason I decided to stick with this one is that because there is a group of us here that all use it so its easy to compare data and make sense of what we are all doing.
I did see the Racekeeper when I was at Watkins Glen and it looks very cool.

Anyone know what this guy is using?
I'd love to have those C6 guages in Traqmate/Racerender somehow.

DL-1/Video 4/Dash 4, along with Graham Templeton's datalogging book.
You can get by with just a DL-1, or just a DL-1 and a Dash 3. The Dash 4 is quite nice. The Video 4, combined with the sector analysis in the software, is really helpful.
