Camera with wifi back to pits...
Does anyone know if this is offered by anyone?
What I'm talking about is a camera with wifi capabilities, and uses that capability to transmit back to a receiver (laptop) to display, in real time, what it sees on track.
With today's technology, that doesn't seem too difficult.

Jody, see this thread http://forums.corvetteforum.com/auto...fi-remote.html
don't know how it is going to work yet. Because this APP has not been released yet. But you may want check their website and call the tech dept at GoPro. I have always found them helpful. As stated the remote is out and it is $100.00 and works great with the Hero2!!! I used it with the Hero HD and was not that impressed, because it only does a few functions with that camera. JD

There is that technology with RF, transmit it to the laptop and do the conversion to WiFi via the laptop. Is this so the family can watch your races from home? Like the "vettes at LeMans?

This Norcal SM racer recently live-streamed this race across the internet:

I don't know any of the details, but my guess is that she's using a cellphone which is streaming video/audio over 3G up to ustream.com. Then ustream broadcasts that single stream into multiple streams for anyone who is watching. (Sears Point has very good cell coverage, for when it has 12 billion NASCAR fans in the stands).
3G wireless could be used for neat stuff in amateur racing. Get an OBDII->bluetooth dongle, connect that to the cellphone and then you can send all sorts of data as well as GPS position back to your crew in the pits. Telemetry for a few bucks.

Heck no! My wife thinks I'm feeding the hungry at the soup kitchen on the weekends I'm at the track.
She thinks I'm a real humanitarian.
I think of Skype and it seems like something like that could be used. It'd be fun to transmit back to the pits so Mazdarati Rob could bitch at me on the radio and tell me how he'd do it differently.

Okay, while driving home I tried Skype between my phone and a laptop at home. And it worked.
So, we should be able to mount the phone in the race car and transmit back to a laptop in the pits. It's free and no additional equipment.
Next time someone is at the track, try it and let us know how it all works.

You would need access points around the track with a back haul to a centrally located access point. It's pretty much Line Of Sight or the signal goes to hell but you can afford it .

GoPro has a WiFi backpack that might be the ticket. You can control up to 50 GoPro cameras with the free app on your computer.
Put 49 cameras in every car at your next track day and put one in the soup kitchen (where you have a cardboard look alike cutout standing) and control them from your laptop in the RV......
A Forum about it here:

WiFi won't do it, but you should be able to get a mobile hot-spot to connect in your car. Press use them all the time to send coverage of trade shows etc, it should work if you have the money and the patience.

We didn't get it working in the car because I couldn't get a decent mount to stick on the windshield to hold my phone. However, we did get Skype to connect two phones via 3G. With the slow connection motion was very choppy. (I made my friend run around the paddock holding his phone up.) If you can get a 4G signal at your track you'll have better results but we proved that the concept works.

I just ordered the wifi remote. I have the hero he which cant live stream but a friend is ordering the hero 2. I'll post once the app for live streaming comes out. I have a phone that can hot spot.
