Anyone burn brake ducts?
Has anyone ever burnt brake cooling ducts? I'm hooking mine up right now and I opted for the 350* stuff from RPW(neoprene?)sp?. does this kind of duct burst into flames or just get crusty?
I tried to burn a piece with a lighter but I don't think thats a great test.
This is how I'm hooking it up.
I'm using a screw with a flat body panel thread thing on a bent sensor bracket.
The hose is pretty close to the rotor here.

I don't think you'll burn that, but why not use Aluminum dryer duct? Also, if you can get a thin plate the size of the rotor, mounted in there it keeps the air flowing at the entire rotor, not just one spot.

You will be fine with that ducting temperature wise. You really need to invest the time and $ into installing a set of spindle ducts for proper airflow. The way you are doing it, you are allowing a large amount of the cooling air to escape rather than cool the rotor.

Thanks for the replies
I'm only auto-Xing now and plan on maybe 2 hpd's a year when I'm prepared.
This should be better than the Z51 coolers I had before so until I get fast this'll do I guess.

Keep in mind that the black silicone hose is only one ply and it is rated at 300 degrees. If you want to get the better stuff, get the 2 ply and it is good up to 500 degrees. The 2 ply comes in orange, blue and yellow.
Of course it cost more money.

I had a similar setup catch on fire at CMP a few years ago. Was giving back-to-back rides, and didn't cool down laps. Ducting caught fire in the paddock. Mine was RIGHT AGAINST the rotor though.
Switching to the red, dual layer hose, correct the issue, but running spindle ducts is a better solution.

That temp hose will turn crispy. You need the orange stuff which has a 600 degree temp. You can get at a good price from a couple of suppliers. I used the black stuff on my spindle ducts and it just didn't last.

I just bought the orange double ply high temp 3.5" hose from CV Products. The wouldn't sell me anything less than 15 feet so I've got 12feet extra. See my post today. I can sell smaller pieces at my cost if you need some. I've tried the black hose and the ends didn't hold well and wound up with holes and tears in it.

You'll be fine with 2 feet. Do me a favor and weigh the kit before you install it. I'm curious the unsprung weight addition.
