SKF Race from Pfadt or Phoenix or Hardbar. The ZR1 has a different spline for the axle so it won't work in a C5.

Get them from rockauto and save yourself a lot of money over all the vendors listed. They mark them up way too much...

Rock Auto does not have the HD Race hubs.

remove the hub
hit target stud with a big hammer
use an open ended lug to tighten the new stud in place.

It is pretty quick and can certainly be done at the track in btw sessions.

You might want to do your homework next time. Rock Auto doesn't sell the SKF HD hubs.

We have the SKF race hubs available. The best way to get new studs into the hubs really is with a press, or definitely with more support than can be provided with pulling the stud through with a nut on the other side.

It's not at all often that I will disagree with the "big dogs" on a mechanical procedure, but I'm with Ben, this is simply not a BFD. Here's me taking some out and putting ARP back in.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cy8Z34-oKsM&feature=plcp

Fast forward to 12:56 on the video.

I have also tapped them out with a machinist hammer with the bearing still on the car (fronts) and put new in.

I have a video of doing the fronts on the car (c5) if anyone needs it.

To make them slip out even easier a few drops of PB Blaster will work.

I did these on my LT4 car and the C5Z, zero issues.

They are simply not pressed in that tight to begin with. No need for a 12 ton shop press.

So for z06801 it's your choice.

It's very hard to tap them in as each hammer strike is ever so slightly different from the next so your angle is always changing.

The pull them in is a nice even equal steady pressure.

He asked for the "proper" way to install the studs. Just because it can be done by the "hammer it the hell out and drag the new one in while destroying a lug" method does not mean that is proper. If at all possible remove and install with a press. When at the track, do anything you can and find the biggest guy in the paddock to help!

Whatever, it's simply not that hard. A small woman could do it. More problems crop up using a press.

Nobody said to hammer the hell out of anything. A single blow will get the stud free and given the ease at which they come out, the stress on the hub is minimal. When knocking it out, put a big socket behind the stud, with a block of wood under it, if it makes you feel better.
Nobody should be hammering in the new ones. They do not take much torque to get seated, though a washer under the lug is a good idea. No lugs are are destroyed in this process.

I suppose the lesson here is to do it with constant pressure applied perpendicularly as much as possible without too much pressure on the bearing surfaces.

Here is a video of me "BEATING OUT" a lug on the RF on the car! No PB Blaster.
