Talladega and Daytona make NASCAR look like bigger fools than they already are.

Without jumping on the "NASCAR doesn't know how to drive" bandwagon, the restrictor plate tracks are a thorn they don't how to fix in a manner to please everyone.

NASCAR *does* need to learn to provide good racing at these tracks, which pack racing isn't. The rules that led to the 2-car tandem racing strategy I thought was the best the racing had been at the plate tracks in decades. Took a great amount of skill, had to drive at the ragged edge to be successful, and while you didn't see pack racing, it was still plenty tight.

Some internet fans didn't like that, and they were loud and persistent, and NASCAR changed things that brought pack racing back.

Now, with new cars next year, who knows how the rule packages will be exploited?

Have a good one,
Mike

Reverse all the aerodynamics on the cars. The faster they go, the lighter they become. If one gets turned it slams back onto the ground and doesn't go into the stands. See who can keep their foot in it when the car is barely touching the ground.

I'm glad I was at Talladega last fall, to see the last 2 car tandem race. I've been to pack races at Daytona, and watching them run in the two car tandem was awesome. Pairs could go from the back to the front, IF they worked together, and some even figured out how to unhook a pair, during the pass, to get by. Great RACING and no big one.

Also, the teams were innovating, trying to keep the cars cooler for longer. I was working at Red Bull then, and we had some pretty trick stuff with the cooling system, as I'm sure other teams did. Teams actually got to innovate...then those internet fans had to go and ruin all the fun...

Excluding me of course...

Could be why they got it wrong, in my opinion. The online chatter helped spark Bruton to change Bristol again (not enough beating and banging, with too much racing), along with the return of pack racing to the superspeedways.

Maybe the race teams need to send us weekend racers some of the money they throw away when they wreck. We could put sponsor names all over our cars and run with really good equipment without wrecking every weekend. Have soem of the road courses start serving beer and heck we might even get some of the NASCAR folks come watch.

Default NASCAR's Perspective

If you can't win, crash.

After all, it's not their money.

They don't want to watch a road course race because they can't see the cars all around the track. Funny thing is they would prefer sitting in a grandstand seat looking at the backs of other peoples heads that are blocking the view of the track. Sight lines for the vast majority of the seats at most tracks is terrible. Forget going to Pocono as there are almost no seats that provide a good view, same with Daytona. Sit in the main grandstands about 10 rows back and you will only see heads but you will pay a nice price for the privilege. One fan keeps telling me that Dover is different but I suspect it isn't. The announcers keep saying the racing is exciting since the fans are all standing and not sitting. However, if you don't stand you get to look at their butts Vs the back of their heads.

How could you not know who Elvis was? Never worked with him though. Funny thing, I couldn't tell you his real name, which is the case with a lot of the guys there!
