they are fun but you won't like it on the the track as much as the corvette
unless you dump another 10K in suspension. here's mine over 500 awhp but on the track it's like driving a beach ball with rockets attach

My brother in law has a 2004 996 Turbo and has slowly been converting it to a track car, its pretty much done now, from suspension, to roll bar to CF roof, hood and new glass, new brakes, new turbos.. and he's fully gutted it...
The first thing you want to do is get a shop to "pin" the coolant hoses as they ALL seem to pop them off their connections sand lose fluid on the track. I'll try to find you a good link for it but you'll get up to speed fast by going to www.rennlist.com
I gotta say maybe in their stock form they are like beach ***** but you can get these to be pretty much a cup car and these things fly

A 996 turbo can certainly fly down the straights but they will never be a cup car.
Way too heavy, the 4 wheel drive makes it feel numb, the turbo exhaust note is really boring.
A GT3/RS is a much better track experience than a turbo unless you step up to a GT2RS which is a completely different animal.

Well, since you missed last weekend at Putnam you will have to bring that latest acquisition to the track next year! You'll have to talk with Mick, a regular at Putnam and very fast in his. Very nice vehicle!

A shop would charge you about 10 hours RR on the motor. Some things are really hard to get to with it in. The 996TT I would still call it a very well made durable car. Other than my coolant pipes blowing off at the track it's been really good and I drive the crap out of it. VGLNTE1 will like it for sure. The GT1 motor is rock solid and has a dry sump from the factory and in fairness drives very well on the street with stock suspension, it has to be pushed on the track to bring out its cushy ride. To the OP I would get flash from Kevin @ UMW in Seattle, 70mm exaust, some of the new Ohlins and call it good

Thanks guys. The vette is thr track car, and the P car wouldn't compare at all. This is just a 500whp daily driver good for going super fast :-)

Actually THE track car would be a Porsche GT3/RS. The car is nearly in perfect track form straight from the factory. Just replace the brake fluid and a good tire alignment, and you are good to go. And, the exhaust note is just intoxicating.
Also, the ride is compliant enough for both the street and track. The only downside to this Porsche are the consumables are quite high.
If you haven't driven a GT3/RS yet, you really owe to yourself to do so.

A friend that I track with told me his brakes on all four corners run a total of around $450. Not bad considering the performance he gets out of them. The tires are not quite as large as the vette's so price break there, too.
