Need track data experience
i am looking for some opinions with track data.
So I have done some research on the topic. Here is what I have found out but experience is better than web searches. What I want is gps and obi II data that I can overlay onto my gopro feeds. I have adobe premier pro that I use for editing. I just need the data and a video display recorded.
Here is what I have found.
traqmate:
Pros:
Nice display overlay
Looks easy to use
Cons:
OBD II data is not wifi
Expensive. It's 1000 if u get the gopro start/stop
iPad with Harris lap timer:
Pros:
Wifi OBD II adapter for purchase
Cheap. With a iPad 2, I think would in for 600 plus now I have an iPad. ( iPad, remote gps, wifi obi)
Cons:
Hokey looking overlay
Cycle time of graphics looks like there is a delay in many example videos.
Not too worried about absolute lap times, just trying to add to my video to make it interesting.
I'm open to anything, needs to have decent capabilities without breaking the bank.

Harry's was plenty good for me, but then again I'm happy with the overlay. Very, very easy to use. I'm not sure how you would mount an iPad for video though. It's quite large. Might be easier with a cheap iPod touch.
Track times confirmed within 0.05-0.10 sec of an AMB transponder.
iPhone 3GS (already have)
Emprum Ultimate ($100)
Universal window suction mount from Fry's (~$15)
Generic USB car power adapter ($10)
Harry's app ($20)
Kiwi OBD II would be extra $100-$150.

I use an AiM Solo with Dashware. AiM is around $500 depending on the version you buy (if you have a C6 I would recommend getting the DL) and Dashware is something like $35.
Works well and now you have data acquisition which can definitely help progressing.

Thanks for the input. What is the software like? I do have a c6z06. What data can you pull from the OBD II? How you sync video with the data?

The software is fairly easy to use, you can figure it out without a manual, there's a tutorial at the beginning. Some of the file formats it's supposed to accept aren't working for me but other than that it works fine, you can see the result in my videos.
I think with a C6, the Solo DL has access to A LOT of data with the OBDII. Steering wheel angle, brake pressure, throttle %, etc. etc. Lots of useful stuff for driver development.
