May be going SC
Got a lead on a great local deal on a centrifugal supercharger and was wondering the affects of this type of setup on HPDE and auto-x.
Depending, I may do 2-3 HPDE events per year and have yet to try auto-x but its on the list.
I don't participate in these events to "win", but just out enjoying my car.
I seem to recall concern about heat soak or something to that effect...
Thoughts? Opinions?
Thanks...

These cars need coolers anyway if you want to run in intermediate group. With the blower, I'm not sure if you will ever be able to keep it cool for driving at that level. I think it'd be ok w/a cooler to run as a beginner on street tires. RPM builds the heat so if you were to upshift very early, or not shift at all (I did that a lot as a newbie) that would help tremendously.

As southpaw said, heat is the enemy. Do a big intercooler, big radiator, and an oil cooler and your car will be ok in intermediate groups for a few events a year.

Thanks for the replies so far guys...
Haven't been at it alot, and those 2 events are usually spread pretty far apart, so I'm still running novice, not sure I'll ever be able to run enough to get to intermediate or beyond...at least not in the foreseeable future...

If you are doing no more than 2 or 3 a year, I say go for it. Mine did OK for a couple of years, and it is a lot of fun, but once you start getting serious, and pushing every lap - BOOM!!!! Conservative tune is a must. Good luck with it.

Superchargers will kill the fun of hpdes. Too much heat and too much down time.
Keep it stock with what you have.
and think about it. a "great deal" on a supercharger? there is a reason for that too.

and what do we always say at VIR, the biggest equipment improvement you can make to the car is the driver.

I might have to respectfully disagree there. If he was doing 6-12 track days a year and trying to do sub 2:10s at VIR, then yes, sc is not the way to go and I can attest to that. But for no more than 2-3 times a year, obviously, becoming Sebastian Vettel is not his goal. Now having a 500+rwhp street car that gets 25+mpg that he can take to the track a couple of times a year and rip on it - sc is good way to go. He might not be able to push it 10/10ths for all 4 sessions, but it would still be an awesome way to enjoy an awesome car. Just my .02 from experience.
