starting car with no drivetrain?
In process of changing clutch and 30 other parts...
Just did rear main seal, and I was curious if I connected the flywheel ONLY, could I start the car and check for leaking without having to put the all the drivetrain back on?
edit, I know I will get 1,000,000 codes, but will it hurt the engine? And I have the car supported properly and the engine has a dedicated jack stand under it.
Thanks

It should be similar to running it on an engine dyno (before the load is applied) and not much different than idling with the clutch engaged.
But, you will need to make sure that everything is sturdy and the engine doesn't move into and crack your firewall upon startup.

If your goal is to see if the rear main seal leaks why not rent a smoke machine - you don't need to start it and it will show a leak much better than running the engine.
Just a thought.
