LS1 front and rear cover alignment tips?
I am replacing the gaskets and seals on my LS1 motor in my 2000 FRC. Oil pan, front and rear seals etc. I was wondering if anyone had any tips to make sure everything is aligned properly without using the tools recommended in the factory manual?
Thanks,
Derek

Surely some of you have replaced the front and rear main seal? I know all of you don't just throw in new motors when you get a leak Just looking for any helpful hints that will keep me from having to pull this again with a leak.

The covers need to be level with the block. Most guys usually put liquid teflon on the joints after the covers are on but before the oil pan. The oil pan needs to be level with bellhousing flange.

Use a flat to measure off the block. (I use the caliper's flat edge).
(Front) Then measure the distance between the flange edges to the crank.
Rear install with the old seal. Get the edges using a flat, tighten down cover. Pull out old seal, put in new seal. Done
Corners are important to put a small dab of sealant of some sort. We use Permatix Ultra black.
