Default Hawk HP Plus vs Stoptech Street Performance

For my C5Z06 with stock Calipers & Rotors

As the title says, looking for folks who have "Used Both" for Intermediate level HPDE's Track Days.

I have been running HP Plus' with acceptable track day results and wear. Curious if the Stoptech Street Performance Pads would be similar on track.

Mainly interested in track info, but would like to understand dusting and squeal during street use.

Thanks for any insights,

Ed

HP+ does not hold up well to track duty in a street weight car. If you have a stripped down, lightweight Vette they are a cost effective option, but will not hold up to a 3300lb Vette at a hard braking track.

I've not used the Stoptech pads you mention. Just like a racing tire, you need a pad that is designed to operate in the heat range of your application, and well, street pads simply aren't!

Have HP+ pads on my Z right now and switching to the StopTech's next week so I'll let you know. According to StopTech they should make almost no noise, dust less, and provide better braking on the track.

Thanks, will be interested in your experiences as you will have used both.

Thanks David, I agree with matching up pads & tires with experience level and driving style.

I am just looking to compare the HP+ with the ST's.

Thanks for the input

One more Choice Carbotech XP8

A high torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range of 200°F-1350°F+ (93°C to 732°C+). Carbotech™ XP8™ is the first of our racing compounds. Good initial bite at race temperatures, high coefficient of friction, excellent modulation and release characteristics. Extremely high fade resistance and very rotor friendly. Excellent as a front brake pad for lighter applications weighing around 2,400lbs or less. Perfect for track day use with any tire and can still be driven safely to and from the track. Carbotech™ does NOT recommended XP8™ as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise. Carbotech™ XP8™ is a great compound on the front & rear of most open wheel and sports racers.

I can confirm that, both with my ST-60s and with stock Z06 calipers (2 different cars). They have good bite cold (no warm up) and work fine (no fade) hot at mild braking tracks like MSR Cresson. I would NOT use them at Road America or Eagles Canyon! They are good for 1300 degrees. Oh, and they are cheap!

I used Stoptech street pads on my BMW M3 at the track, and now I use them on the GS. They work great on the track with the high temp fade resistance. I would get 3-4 track days out of them on the M3. Currently only have one track day on them with the GS. They do make a very small amount of noise on the street, you may not even notice it. They dust less than the OEM pads on the street, but the dusting is heavy at the track, of course. I like that they are easy on the rotors, and the cost is very good.

You guys are making these pads sound superior to the OEM C5Z pads in every way, even for a street car that sees little or no track time.

Mike, I think Frank runs these and has had good results at our S Cal tracks.

Thanks for the insights, I may try a set after I use up my HP+ spares.

Just my experience, I would not run HP + on the street and for autox and track I have had more issue with fluid boiling and rotors cracking than any brake fade front he HP+'s. I have since fixed the fluid issue with Motul 600.
