Another track tire question
If you are running 345/30/19 pilot sport cup tires for the rear, would you go with a 265/35/18 front or 285/30/18?
My concern is the overall diameter. I need all the help I can get since I will be running active handling. The rear is 27.2 and the 265 fronts are 25.2 and the 285 is 25.1.
I was leaning towards the 265s because of the extra .1 but was wondering if the contact patch was to small for the front due to the rears being so big.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have cmp in a month and fear I can't get the right size front tire.

I'd run the 285 front as I do not think that extra .1" in diameter is going to make a difference as far as TC is concerned but the extra contract surface of the wider tire will certainly help front end grip. Running the 265 I think that the car is going to push.

That .100" difference in diameter is only .050" radially. I'm willing to bet the tolerance(allowable variation) on the OD of the tire is actually larger than the nominal difference of .050". To put in perspective, a quarter(coin) is .067" thick.
With that in mind I would definitely buy the 285s over the 265.

285 for sure. Think about it. When you're braking hard where does the weight transfer go? So you want as much tire as you can get in the front to help control the braking and steering.

Yeah, I was concerned because the 345 and 265 was already a 2 inch difference (25.2 and 27.2) and now the 285 will make it 2.1.
But I guess we will do the 285 and hope no issues

While I don't know what other sizes are available, I would have to think that even a 345 to 285 stagger would cause the car to push (understeer). I run a 335 /315 stagger and still have to dial in a little less shock in the front to compensate.

For me, I only have a 18x9.5 rim so I can't fit the 315 on a 9.5 unfortunately.

Not that I'm recommending it for the track, but autocrossers put 315s on 9.5" wheels on C5/C6 all the time. They will go on. Depending on setup, you may need spacers to prevent rubbing.
