Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge?
Gentlemen,
How many have entered or are planning to enter an Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge event last year or this year?
What did you think of the Autocross and Speed Stop challenges?

Danny Popp, Todd Rumpke, Dave Mikels drives Thompsons GS, I run my C5Z. There are quite a few others running in the qualifying events. Some have optimized their cars but a lot just run for fun. Auto crosses vary at the different events based on room and who designs them. Start stop requires repetition, technique, and steady nerves. What is it that you want to bring?

I have a C5 Z that presently has L.G. Motorsports coilovers, Pfadt bars, C6 Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, and Michelin PS2s. By next May I should have my new 451 LS engine installed (~ 750 hp).

I ran it at the Hot Rod Power tour last year, I was a long hauler and did not have my good tires or cooling ducts.
I finished 17th out of 48 cars overall in a 1999 Z28.
It was fun but be aware, I was loading my Hot Rod power tour crap and luggage back in the car to drive 450 miles home after driving 3500 miles prior to watch the top cars be loaded into stacker trailers to go home and some were on race fuel.

The ps2's aren't contenders. For 200 tread wear, take a look at the falken rt615k's. I don't know your history, but spend some time doing auto crosses this spring and learning optimum tire inflation. If you're out of practice at the strip, go back and learn how to launch on the new tires. Everything else can get you there. Which events do you want to attend?

They also have been talking about some new rules for this year....haven't seen anything yet.
They don't alway go with the winner of the event either- they look for what they feel is the best match to their intent of the whole event. Good car, enthusiasm. etc. can get you in.

You wont find those on any top 10 car. Non oe spec ps2's in 2010 single handedly cost me several places in 2010 Don't hook for beans in acceleration and take a long time to come up to temp. Rt615's vastly superior within this specific rule set.

I just reviewed the Falken RT-615 sizes, and none of them are offered in a 19-inch size. Without buying another expensive set of wheels, the 18s won't clear my 15.3 inch front rotors.
Thanks for the advice on autocross and drag racing launch practice.
I don't have a list of 2013 events. Where do I find them?

From me:
I was curious as to what tires were on the ZR1 at Eagles Canyon at the Optima Batteries deal .....I was there with you in the Pewter Z28. Pretty sure they were Michelins but which Michelins were they?
His reply:
Louis Gigliotti pilot sports, standard street tire

Of course the Zr1 they brought, which is the one in the for sale link above is a WICKED machine. But it did, in fact have standard Pilot Sports on it.

One of my friends Brian went again this year and came in second place again, but he out drove the winner in every event and has a better looking car in MY opinion, but not the judges:
I know of a few cars that might get invites. One of the cars is pretty badass, and getting more badass as we speak. The driver didn't know anything about the series a few months ago, but with what hes doing now I think he will get an invite.
on topic about the tire, the RT615K is size limited. A lot of these cars run 315-335 tires, and no one makes them in that size. The star specs only come in tiny sizes .

FYI BFG is releasing a new tire for these purposes called RIVAL, 200 treadwear. Being released today at a private test at NOLA Motorsports Park.
Awaiting the feedback from a buddy who is there.
