Default can you build a nice c6 vette for the track starting w 25k

im not saying do it all at once but if i bought one, first put racing seats and cage in for safety then slowly upgrade could it be done. I read one of the threads a the top of the page but just wondering from experience. Also wondering what is the most miles you would buy on a car, obviously i would go over the car as well before tracking.

Would it be cheaper than running a P car, i have a nice 997 but id rather build a track only car and was thinking of a vette or 996.

Thanks

For 25k there are a bunch of c5z's for sale in this forum that you should by. You have race cars that make great track cars and can be there for you as you progress. You will very likely want to race at some point and you will already have the car.

This will be an interesting thread because the question is somewhat broad. It would be easier if you defined a class or specs. Just based on what I have done/seen:

4-7k for a cage depending on who does it and if he paint the interior
500-1k for a seat, harness, and bracket.
1.5-3k for sway bars, shocks, springs, corner balance and some labor
1-2k for tires. Another 500-1k for an extra set of speed lines
If you don't start off with a grand sport then another 1-2k for coolers
2.5-5 k for upgraded brakes if you want to go that route.
Another 1-2k for odd things like tow hooks, fluids, fire extinguisher.
Engine mods?

It doesn't really end....

The GS will also give you wide body and a dry sump.

You can probably sell some of the take off parts and find used parts along the way.

Most will tell you is is cheaper to buy one done already.

There should be lots of posts to give different variations.

Then you might just consider a seat, harness, and harness bar rather than a cage. Don't forget a good helmet and a HANS device.

It does not add roll over protection, but those are pretty rare and the C6 halo is pretty strong. You can later sell that stuff if you do a full cage. A full cage is not recommended for street driving anyway.

Thanks for showing mine as an example.

ajcjr, I can set you up in my car and it's completely ready for the track. Even have extra tires (among other spares) that you won't need any for awhile. I bought this car for the same reason you are looking but I knew I was going to W2W at some point. It was a decision well worth the money rather than building my own car. PM me if you're interested.

Without naming vendors I've gotten a price for a cage for a c6z06 ranging from 14 to 16 thousand. 4 to 7 seems cheap or maybe its not a full cage?

You are correct, your price is about what I have always heard for a C6z because of the aluminum frame. For a C5, base C6 or a GS with a steel frame, you would be looking at half of what you were quoted.

You also need to be sure that whoever does it, will do it in a way to meet the requirements of the relevant sanctioning bodies so that if you go W2W later, you are ok.

Good catch

Exactly what i was talking about... As I said and a couple others have now, this is the absolute best way to go. C5's are easier to replace too... There's dozens of reasons why this should be that way to go.

Default First Cost?

To my way of thinking, one of your first costs to consider after buying your car should be a one day driving experience on a road course.Cost? $250!

A very wise man by the name of Mike Newlander called me up on the phone one evening and talked me right out of this same project. All he said was, "Take however much you think you're going to spend on the car, and double it. That's how much it'll cost just to get going."

I'm not trying to discourage you like Mike did me (and I'm glad he did!) But just know that your budget is going to very likely balloon up quickly.
