Default Floor and tunnel insulation help

I ran at CMP this weekend and burned my elbow on the tunnel where my arm rest used to be. My heels were burning up after long runs too. What is a good insulation to use on the floor board and along the tunnel? Do I need to put a plate over the insulation or can I put my feet directly on top of it?

Do a search for "frost king". It's a foil and foam insulation material that you can get at Lowes and Home Depot. I'm going to do the tunnel on mine in the next week or two. For less than $20 it's worth a try.

Yikes, if cockpit is getting that hot, you may want to look into larger radiator, oil cooler, trans cooler, and diff cooler (check out Doug Rippe). That said, tunnel plates are common (they go between your exhaust pipes and center console) and should help. If not enough. You can also pull up the center console and floor mats and put down some thermal tape beneath them.

Dan, remind me to send you a link of the stuff I put in my trans tunnel. I got it from Summit or Jegs. Expensive but works.

Do you have a tunnel plate on the lower side? - ceramic helps. Also, try a reflective film:

Dan,

As I stated above, it is probably time for you to install heat shield and wrap your pipes.

I am pretty sure this is the heat shield I used. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dei-050503/overview/

The exhaust wrap is DEI Titanium that you can get at Advance Auto.

For the top of the tunnel, use Mightymatt (on ebay, get the stuff w/foil on both sides) or Thermo-tec Cool-It insulating mat.

Did the exhaust wrap help with trans temps as well? I've been getting the High Trans Temp warning more often so I really need to do something about it.

Yes, some. And I had the internals of my trans REM polished when it was rebuilt. But I can still overheat the trans during a race. So I installed a tranny cooler just this past weekend.

If nothing else, the wrap and shielding keeps the tranny hump from burning the **** out of me through my race suit.

Dan, I agree that the pics Kevin posted is a good solution. You can also add the heat shield on the tunnel on the inside as an additional step.
