Default New to me C5Z, tire size recommendation for HPDE...

I am looking for recommended tire sizes for running HPDE session. Can anyone suggest front/rear tire sizes?

Just bought a 04 Z06 and it needs tires. Stock wheels.

I am currently running 305's in the rear and 265's up front. In terms of HPDE is wider better or do I stick with stock sizes? Any thoughts on this?

As for the tire I am looking at the Michelin Pilot S2's which sound like they give excellent grip.

Thanks!!

I've used stock sizes on my 02 Coupe (245/45, 275/40) and stock Z06 sizes (265/295) on stock C5Z wheels. Currently using 275/40 and 305/35 R888's on the stock C5Z wheels.

275/315s will also work.

I run 295 front and 305 rear. Both work well with stock width wheels. I uses to run 315 in the rear but was not using all of the tread due to lack of wheel width. 305 allows use of full tread since the tire casing is not pinched.

If you're just starting out I would run 275/40/17's and 305/35/18's and learn the handling characteristics. You can move up from there later if you wish.

yes this exactly. Starting out in this car. I have done many HPDE's but in other vehicles. I think the above sizes sound like a good compromise between stock and extreme.

Now off to find tires!

Thanks everyone!!!

Check out NT-05s (low cost, sticky and not terrible if it rains). I think they only make 295s for the back, but I don't think you'll notice a difference. R888s and NT-01s (if you want more dry stick, less wet traction, and less life) or the new Michelins (if you want more DD duty) are also good options.

if you're going to try and do street/track on one tire and drive in rain you're looking at the ps2 or re760 in stock sizes

if you're doing street/track mostly dry with light rain you have the nt05 in 295 35 18 and 275 40 17

if you're doing just track and limited street you have the toyo R888 in 305 35 18 and 275 40 17

performance keeps going up the more track oriented you get

btw the ps2 is a very expensive tire for what you get. it was a top notch tire 12 years ago but has sense been outdone by many. i would not be surprised to see the ps2 come in only a smidgen faster than the re760 which is half the cost and much newer, but a step down in performance class

the new pss outperforms it in every way and even costs a couple hundred per set less. the only caveat is it requires you to upgrade to 19/18 wheels so you can run 305 30 19 and 265 35 18
