Anyone ran these verses the 2004 Z06 shock upgrade? Trying to decide what the best shocks for my 2001 are.

Ohlin, Penske, Koni, O'Connell, Bilstien, and C6 Z06 GM shocks are all good at their own price point.

Price of these ranges from about $5,000 to $300. I dont think you can go wrong with any of these. Unless you overspend your budget and your wife finds out...

I have the JOC stage 1 package on my C6 base coupe. Best upgrade I've done to the car. I can't compare to a C5Z or C6Z just the C6 base coupe.
I think they're good for OEM replacement that will handle DD and the DE's. If your doing TT or WTW go coil overs and spend alot of money.

I have the JOC setup on my '04. Problem is I bought mine used and the previous owner had already put a set of cheap Bilstein's on it not realizing what he had.

I am now waiting for my DRC Bilstein's to arrive to replace the O'Connell's.

The O'Connell's are nice and the car handles well but I wanted a little more track performance.

I ran the stock 04 shocks for many years. Tried Bilsteins before that. Car was set up with poly bushings and hoosier R6 tires, stock springs and T1 anti-roll bars for much of that time.

Found my times were better with the 04 shocks than with the bilstein sports. They seemed softer than the 04 stockers.

What we really need is published shock dyno curves for the shocks in question. I've never seen such for the BIlsteins nor the stockers nor the popular C6 shocks.

I replaced my 03 stock suspension with JOC stage 1 complete kit. Its super stiff and little to no body lean. It really depends what you prefer, the JOC should be better than the 04 stock for track. On the other hand, some people like the stock feel of the shocks, very progressive through and no surprises.

If my car turns into a dedicated track car, I may do coils but the JOC hasn't let me down so far.

I have JOC stage one ( shocks and sway bars) on my 2002.
I also have a 2004 ( Z16 Le Mans).
The 2002 with the JOC does seem to me to feel a little more planted on the road and have been very happy with the set up for the $$. I hasten to add that I cannot make a very accurate comparison due to the fact that one car is in CA and the other in FL (different tracks).

Our JOC shocks are far better than any OEM damper available. Our digressive shock design keeps the car planted very well at the track but also does not have the harsh characteristics of the OEM stuff around town. We spent a lot of time with JOC himself selecting the best valving and sway bar rates for these cars with track use in mind. Combined with the sway bars, it is an amazing package that will completely transform the handling. Hope the info helps, you can always give us a ring if you want to find out more about the design.

I've had the JOC package for about a year+ and as mentioned above, one of my very best upgrades. I was going to do coil overs but am so pleased with the shocks/bars I'm going to stay where I'm at.

I'm running JOC stage 1 Sways with C6 Z06 shocks on my '03 Z and love them on the track. Very little body roll and much improved handling over my stock components. It is a bit on the stiff side on the street daily driving though. If I was to do it over again I'd probably go for the JOC stage 1 shocks as well.

Wheelman I'd recommend getting the C6Z front spring if you're going to do HPDE's. I've got the stock springs on my C6 base with JOC stage 1. My car is a whole lot better but under hard abrute braking the front dives down and the back goes up causing some ABS on the rear I feel.

Some others have installed the C6Z front spring and report having some oversteer. I still have understeer but not as much since I set the rear sway to its tightest setting.
The JOC stage 1 was tested and designed on a C6Z.

The 04Z shocks are better than the C6Z shocks and were tuned for the C5 suspension. If you are thinking of using the JOC sway bars then stay with their shock as they were designed to work as a package. While this is an over simplification, your spings and bars will mostly determine how the car turns, your shocks help return them to level position with dips and swales in the track
