Here's a link to an article I did for Vette magazine back in 2005. It's about an aluminum flywheel. I still think it's the single best thing I ever did for the car when it comes to track days.

When I did this to my AE111 Trueno (supercharged), my traction problems significantly worsened. It used to be that 1st was worthless, 2nd would dig, and 3rd would scratch on the upshift then be kind of OK. After the flywheel, 1 was impossibly worthless, 2nd was borderline worthless, and 3rd would dig and dart the car (FWD) all over the road. At first I thought it was the change in weather (suddenly cooler), but later came to realize it was my lighter clutch assembly. On a Corvette, you can get Spec's 10.5" unit that comes with aluminum flywheel AND PP and drops about 20# of mass. MOI remains similar to stock, Richard, I feel that's something that bears mentioning. If you keep a 50# clutch in there but make a it a small diameter multi-disc setup, it'll act the same as a larger diameter yet lighter weight clutch.
