In this specific case the first thing that comes to mind is really who cares. What person in their right mind is going to take their $845,000 car and try to drive it at anywhere close to that pace on any road or track? The car has great performance but at the price that you have to pay for one, it will never be used for what it was intended for.

Bragging rights is what it's all about.....
And, I just stumbled across an auto highlight about two or three days ago featuring the 918. Looked like a costly beast. Who would have thought a few days later the 918 would set a new record on the 'Ring.
What person in their right mind would take their $845,000 car and drive it at that pace on any road or track? The guy who has the pockets deep enough to buy one for each of his friends and family for the next 100 generations.
Unfortunately.....that isn't me.
Still a sick ride!!

In all honesty, It's amazing to see what technology runs around that track. 6:57 is sick!!!

If I had $845k burning a hole in my pocket I'd spend a couple hundred K and buy a race car and go faster. I'd take the other 600 or so K and buy another house. The problem with dual purpose track/street car is that they usually are not good at either job. 6:57 is without a doubt blazing fast, but again at $845k it is an absolutely absurd amount of money to spend for bragging rights about lap times on a race track. To me once you get outside of a couple hundred k it's all a mute point because no one (that I know at least lol) can afford these cars anyway. So imho it's no more impressive than reading that a 2010 model year F1 car did a 6:36 on the ring. Heck I don't know what the market is like for a couple year old used F1 car's but in this case it might even be cheaper to go that route lol

I am in the IT service business. I have a very wealthy client worth a lot more than $1B. He has a personal allowance of $250,000,000 per year, more than $60,000,000 per quarter or in other words, more than $20,000,000 per month. That is more than one million dollars per business day in personal spending.
I always have to do that math because it helps me fathom the volume of his personal spending.
It is guys like him who buy cars like this in different colors because having several jets, helicopters and more than a dozen homes is not enough. Even with all that there is money left over to spend.

What I thought was really interesting was that the driver very rarely counter steered and got on the power very early in the turns. I like my car a lot and it cost 10k!
