Default 918 Spyder sets Nurburgring record

It seems this would be a one-lap car, but crazy where we may see performance of all sports cars in the next decade.

These sports cars are getting close to the sport bike world where the bike performance was far beyond what most street riders could handle and people would get killed riding them. People will buy "the best" regardless of their ability to control it. Sport bike manufactures called a truce and agreed to limit power several years ago. Could that happen with cars? I would guess that we may start seeing more track only cars in the future like Ferrari started with the FXX.

Sub 7 minutes on MPSC at that. That's faster than an ACR-X on slicks, and by a good margin!

It's about tie supercars started being super again. It had gotten to the point where the the performance cars had passed the super expensive exotic supercars by so the lines were completely blurred. This with the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari may restore some dignity to the uber expensive cars.

That being said, it looks dull to drive with the AWD.

Looks like Porsche is throwing down a gauntlet!

Next they will bring out a Le Mans prototype?

Hire a Formula 1 driver?

Really could care less about the battery aspect, right up there with they can get rid of KERS but love the rest of it.

Incredible time.....It wasn't that long ago that F1 cars were struggling to make laps below 8 minutes.

You'd probably feel a little differently sitting in that passenger seat while it ran a sub 7 minute time!

Its not 4WD in the usual way. Its RWD with the electric motors driving the front wheels.

There was a interview with the design team where they were asked "would it not have been better to make the car lighter and have less power?" you should have seen the German guy trying to compute the answer bless him! lol

Also 7min isn't that quick really. The radical SR8 has gone faster as can be road legal. the Ultima GTR has never been official tested but should smash that.

COG 7" lower than 911, Wow! That one lap with electrical assist is somewhat like a JATO for aircraft takeoff, can't use it for the entire trip but makes for one quick acceleration.
