Default Hoosier Tire Life

If I am considering running my C5 Z06 in an enduro, how bad is tire wear on a set of DOT Hoosiers? How many hours can I expect to get out of them?

Brakes as well?

Which compound are you going to run - A or R ?? Big difference in life between the two with R's giving more life. I used to run the R compound and got 5-6 weekends out of them running 5-8 30 minute sessions a weekend. Same life expectancy for front pads running Wilwood calipers and H compound. It really all depends on the length of the enduro, the track you are going to run on and your braking style.

You road racers make me jealous with tire life. I get 36 laps (miles) total out of a set of A6's.

Then again, the concrete is pretty brutal on tires, and we turn a whole lot more in 1 lap. On our 1-mile course you're looking at 60-70 turns.

I will be running 12-13 hour enduros, maybe a few shorter ones in the 4 hour range.

I will be running R compound for sure.

Brakes are stock as of now. Coming from Spec Miata racing, my braking style is, don't use the brakes and carry momentum. I have tracked the Vette and used the approach with great success.

I usually run Hawk Blues in the Miata which will last a full 12 hours. I have heard of Corvettes running the Hawk HPS pads, but would like to hear feedback from everyone.

So the questions are, what tire and how many sets will I need?
What brake pads, and can I make it on one set?

We ran a 3 hour Enduro last year at NJMP Thunderbolt in a '99 FRC ST2 car. It was a last minute decision so all we had to work with was 2 315/30-18 R6's on the front (they had roughly 20 laps on them before the enduro) and 2 315/30-18 A6's for the rear (new). At the end of the race, the A6's were corded and the R6's looked OK - they probably would have gone another hour at the most. Hope this helps

R6's are your best bet and you need better pads than Hawk HPS to handle the grip of those tires. I recommend Carbotech or Hawk DT60/70's.

With those tires I would run XP24 front and XP10 rear.

For pads, check out Raybestos ST Series, the best kept secret.

ST47/ST43 should work well for enduro. Call Porterfield Brakes.
