Nice looking chassis!

Looking at this design caused me to re read the SCCA GCR on the diagonal brace. They use to require it to go from the drivers side of the hoop at top. It's been a long time since I looked at that requirement but I see it is no longer.

Main hoops shall incorporate a diagonal brace. The brace shall either be in the plane of the main hoop, or extend from the top of one rear brace (described in 9.4.B.2.c) to the bottom of the opposite rear brace. Automobiles with mid mounted engines can have the lower mounting point attach to the frame of the automobile within six inches of the main hoop. In the case of braces in the plane of the main hoop, the brace must span at least 50% of the width
of the main hoop, and at least 75% of the height of the main hoop as shown in figure 12.

It's interesting that the tube frame Corvettes can run an IRS, but most choose not to.

Trans Am cars use 9" type live axle's and they are among the fastest GT cars anywhere. I think the consensus is, that on North American tracks that are relatively smooth the advantage of IRS is minimal. The durability of the Nascar type 9" rears when mated to the 850 HP motors is key.

We have used 9" and quick change live axles in our cars. The quick change types are good, but the 9" type has been bulletproof. We found above 650 HP or so the quick change units became marginal.

Woody fabricates a bracket and mounts the Watts link to the rear of the 9" type rear end.
Same set up on my "Woody" C6 racer. Works very well. My car is very secure on corner entry and works well trail braking into corners.

If you look at the pic in post 2 of this thread, on the top of the fuel cell are a couple of Penske shocks that Woody has used in applications like this. They are the Nascar "red top" rebound adjustable type. Woody picks these up used and rebuilds them for road racing. He installs the coil over sleeves and they make nice affordable shocks for club racing. He put a set of these on the Camaro SPO car from our team and they work very well. That car handles really well and runs lap times like a front running Trans Am 2 car.
