Default help please regarding wheel /tire selection

I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up a set of 4 hoosier r6 275/40/17's. First off, is this a good idea for a c6, secondly are they too narrow for track day use and thirdly what wheel width is recommended. Thanks.

You need to start by considering the overall diameter of your tires. If you have a base model (non-wide body), your stock overall diameter is as follows:

245/40-18 front should have a diameter around 25.7 inches
285/35-19 rear should have a diameter around 26.9 inches

You need tires of a diameter that are within 3% of the front/rear ratio, from what I am told. The tires you're looking at won't work for your setup based on the info (or lack of info) you have provided. And do you have aftermarket wheels to mount these on? They aren't going to fit on your OEM wheels.

Your best solution is aftermarket wheels that are 18 inches all the way around, as 18 inches has become the standard size for road racing.

I have 18x11 front and 18x12 rear wheels for the track but I have a widebody. I'm guessing you'll be 18x10 front and 18x11 rear but I'll let someone else chime in on that to confirm.

Thanks for the info. I would need to also buy rims. I'm just afraid these tires would be too narrow especially on the rear. I'm not too experienced with wheel offsets or how wide I should go on a stock body C6. Btw... these are 25.5 in diameter. I think I should buy a used proven set of wheels / tires from a cf member. I've been a member since 2001 and have never been steered wrong yet. Thanks again.

The tires you listed have a diameter of 25.5".

The tires I run on my base coupe C6 have a diameter of 25.3" front and 25.6" rear (295/30/18 on 18x10 and 315/30/18 on 18x11).

My setup does not have enough stagger either, but for the track where you can run with traction control and stability control off, this is not an issue. I am on my seventh set of this configuration, so by now I should have seen all the issues.

I think as long as your 17s clear your brakes and don't rub, they should work with TC/AH off.

You can buy a brand new set from forgestar (not forgeline) for $1500 and they are solid. Buddy of mine finished third at nationals in NASA TT3 and those are all he runs. Never had an issue.

You may consider 18's. They are plentiful and will more likely fit over your brakes,,, even after you upgrade to a big brake kit.

18's all the way around are the way to go. More tire choices as well.

This would be an easier way to go. There are lots of wheels and slicks available in 18" sizes.

A 275/40 tire won't work on anything bigger than a 9.5" wide wheel. You don't want to have the tire sidewall at an angle more than what the tire was designed for. And with a 17" wheel, you need to find out if there would be any clearance issues with brake calipers and rotors. Same with wheel offset; any wheels you get should have close to or the same as the factory wheel offset.

Thank you all for the input. I think I'll scratch the 17 inch idea. These were a very good deal on ebay though.

IF you have the proper wheels already, and IF they will fit properly, there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of a great deal. They will wear out after all.
I'm running 18/19 because I had the wheels already. I'll switch to all 18 when I can afford new rear wheels.
