I just stack my Kumho V710 tires on their sides on a piece of carpet in the garage. Garage is insulated but not heated so temps don't fall much below 40. I have not noticed any degredation in tire performance over the winter storing this way.

I had heard that tires should not be stored near electric motors. Something like a gas is given off from the running motors and can degrade the rubber. Not sure if it's really true, but I have enough room in my garage now to keep my A6's away from motors.
I bought one of those steel tire racks from Summit Racing which is the same one on the Tire Rack website. The one I go even had Tire Rack decals on it I mounted the rack on a wall just above head height. Was a PITA to get the tires up there but it did save floor space.

I have 6 sets of new un-mounted slicks in the garage. For long term storage I just bag them individually in heavy duty black trash bags (to help block UV radiation) that I tape shut. Then I stack them on their side 6x tires to a stack with a piece of carpet on the bottom of the stack between the lowest tire and the concrete floor.

I wrap them in pallet wrap and store in doors.

Go to discount tire they will give you bags. I have 20 Pirelli DH slicks stacked in 4's in the corners of my family room and dinning room to keep them above 60* !!! My doesn't like it but oh well its bumpers for my bulldog to bounce off of!!!

Up until this year I let them sit on my trailer in its storage shed at whatever temperature it happened to be outside. Sometimes the temps were below 0. Never noticed any degradation.
The gas that comes off electric motors is Ozone which can cause tires and other things to degrade sooner.

Ozone is the number one cause of tire wear on street cars. It breaks the backbone of the rubber molecule which is essentially microcracks in the rubber. These propogate and small pieces break off. That is the main source of tire wear.
