Default Rear sway bar removal for track use?

I had an instructor at an HPDE say that you should take the rear sway bar off a C5 or C6 for track use. I was wondering if anyone has tried this or uses this method with their car. I do not understand why it would work. Wouldn't it cause a big push condition. As set up right now my C5 with coilovers is a very neutral handling car. I was just curious of anyone else's opinion on this.

Maybe in the rain, I don't see why you would do that in the dry.

All depends on the front and rear balance, shocks, and springs....

But yes the only time typically you remove or unhook the sway bars is for rain use. Only other way would be if the rear end was so stiff it didn't need it, and I would say that is a setup issue.

I'm not that much into the vintage stuff, but I have heard some of the older guys say the mid years didn't run a rear bar. Someone can correct me on that though.

I know a World Challenge driver that did that.

Trying to get as much grip out of the street tires as he could

He went faster

Thanks everyone. That was pretty much my thought also. I just wanted to get opinions of other people. As I stated, my car is a very neutral car so I see no reason to try this.

Only big block C2's came with a stock 0.5" rear sway bar.

I worked on a few mid year cars, and most of the guys at the vintage races said not to run a rear bar on those....only did that for a summer though so I don't have a ton of time under them.

I see no reason not to try it. I agree with the above, in the dry it probalby won't help at all, but it's about 5 minutes to disconnect, why not try it for a few laps?
