In-car video of new pavement at VIR
You can hear it a little on the video, but the new pavement made the tires squeal a lot. All the audio cues were completely different with the new surface. Weather wasn't the most grip inducing -- partly cloudy 40-deg F and 15mph winds to push the car around.
I like the extra pavement from the exit of T1 through the entry to T4. Oak Tree looks like a parking lot -- more pavement, blind apex, no curbing at left to use as a turn-in reference. Needless to say I never figured that out.
Lots to relearn!

There were no changes to any grades, camber, or apexes according to Kerrigan. No track modifications after Oak Tree other than pit entry widening and apex curbing at the new T18 (kink in front straight is now a turn).

That's a RaceRender artifact. It changes the lap number when you cross start/finish but holds the lap time so you can see what happened in the recently completed lap. I wish it would delay changing the lap number so it wouldn't do that.

That's crazy looking. Going to take a while to get used to for sure. How did lap times compare to the "old" track?
Is that pavement out of NASCAR bend on the outside of the gator usable?? ...as in take the gator down the middle of the car?

Any pavement beyond the FIA curbing is off limits and not part of the racing surface according to VIR Ops. You can't drive around the curbing at T3 because it starts way before natural track out, so you'd have to drive over the FIA curbing to get to it. You can easily straddle it in a Corvette if you do happen to get out there someday.

Oh, you can bet that pavement will get used. Just based on the dirt on the outside that used to be part of the line prior to the installation of the curb. I'm sure they know wherever they put pavement, racers will find a way to use it.
Will be a matter of time before the dirt outside of the new pavement outside of that curb will get some regular usage.
ROFL.

Internet rumor is that Sharief (sp?) at Forged is saying the new setup is a mind-blowing 4 seconds a lap faster. And this is in their GTRs that run mid 1:50s already.

Nice... if I remember correctly Sharif was right at the 2 minute mark a few years ago in a stock GTR on A6s. Curious what Skeen was running. Hadn't seen any updates from him on Facebook.
EDIT - Just checked Skeen's FB page. He says 3 and 12 will be big.
