Beating the dead horse....anyone make a custom diffuser yet for a C5?
#3
I haven't seen anything yet that was cheap or functional enough, the ones that are out there are crazy expensive for what you get. My current plan is to fab one similar to what's on the C6R and C7R, it's a very basic design but should be functional to some extent.

Ok new question...how important is it for diff and trans coolers with a diffuser since you need to panel over that section.

Better question: How many people on this forum are driving their cars to the absolute knife-edge limit that a diffuser is going to give them any kind of measurable and consistent decrease in lap time?
I only know of a handful of people... and I am not one of them.

Probably never going to be me. Not competitive anyway. I race to the edge of the limits of the car, but it am no where near needing .0005 off my lap times

I know very few people that can drive a full aero, wide tire, high hp Corvette at the limits of the setup. You are in small company. Hope to see you at Nationals.

I think the better original question should have been "Are there diffusers for the C5 that have been developed properly in a test setting like a wind tunnel?"

It doesn't take wind tunnel testing to tell you that a smooth bottom car will have less drag than the dirty underside of the C5/C6 - especially around the tranny and diff cradle. Any time you can accelerate airflow you will decrease drag and increase downforce, so even the most basic designs have a drag reducing benefit. Sure they won't be optimized like wind tunnel tested pieces but they will be beneficial. Jaymz told me at Mid-O that he didn't know if the diffuser was really doing anything but it was weight mounted low and back. After he ran a 1.28.xx in TT2 at Mid-O last year I think we can at least agree it isn't hurting him.
