Default AP Racing Group Buy

Speed Freaks, LLC is happy to announce a group buy through the end of March on Stillen's new Radi-CAL AP Racing BBK as well as Stillen's Classic AP Racing BBK. Both systems are tailored for the street driven vehicle that also sees some auto x or track events. The Classic kits are available for all C5 and C6 models while the new Radi-CAL is available for all C5,C6 and C7 models.

Radi-CAL AP Racing BBK:

AP Racing Radi-CAL big brake kits bring race caliper technology to the street. AP racing designed the calipers with 4 key points in mind:

Weight Savings

By removing material where it isn't necessary and keeping the material only where it's actually required, AP Racing is able to remove a considerable amount of weight. Additionally, in choosing a pressure forged aluminum manufacturing process, the caliper is 20% lighter than if it were to be constructed out of cast aluminum.

Strength

By using a pressure forged aluminum manufacturing process, the caliper is 25% stiffer than if it were to be constructed out of cast aluminum. Additionally, it is designed to only have material in key structurally integral areas so as to better manage the loads being placed on them during hard braking.

Design

AP Racing wanted to build a caliper that wasn't just technically ahead of the competition, but also cosmetically. They've accomplished this by designing one that is hands down the best looking caliper in the big brake kit market.

Functionality

At the end of the day, AP Racing is an engineering company. They are very talented engineers who eat, sleep, breath, and live high performance. They didn't want to simply build a good looking caliper that would work well for the street- they wanted to build the best looking caliper that would outperform every other caliper in any environment it was in. To accomplish this, they paid close attention to detail, including how easy it is to change brake pads. With the pressure forged removable bridge "H" support, changes take a matter of minutes instead of hours like other big brake kits.

Radi-CAL Calipers

Derived from AP Racing's patented and widely successful race Radi-CAL caliper and after 7 years of development, AP Racing has released their new pressure forged aluminum Radi-CAL caliper line validated for high performance road use and weekend track use. Using the latest FEA (finite element) analysis software and brake dynamometer testing, it was designed to implement the latest technologies learned through 40+ years of highly successful motorsports participation and an unparalleled 700+ F1 Grand Prix victories.
AP Racing pressure forged aluminum caliper bodies are tested at over 500,000 cycles of pressure and torque to meet AP Racing's stringent OE and high performance road use validation testing to ensure maximum stiffness and durability required for use on road registered vehicles. The forged aluminum process was chosen as it offers a 20% stronger and lighter caliper than similarly sized units using a casting process. These larger, lightweight AP Racing calipers replace the typical heavy cast iron OE calipers that are designed for low cost and little regard to high performance driving.
The opposed piston design guarantees maximum stiffness for better pedal feel and immediate braking action from the drivers input. Four piston and six piston designs allow a larger pad area to be used which decreases heat at the friction point between the pad material and disc surface while maintaining the same brake torque. This single detail increases both rotor and pad service life. Additionally, a larger caliper aids in braking performance by acting as a more efficient lever on the rotor. This in turn applies more torque to the rotor thus increasing the force applied to the rotor.
By controlling the operating temperature caused by the friction between the pads and rotor we are able to better manage the performance of the big brake kit. Controlling the temperature in a braking system is one of the biggest goals when designing a kit. A vehicle will create the same amount of heat when stopped from the same speed, the brake component choices will control how that heat is managed. Both pads and rotors have optimum operational temperature ranges. For a street car, we must make sure the brakes work flawlessly at sub-zero temperatures but still offer excellent performance when being pushed on a race track and being subjected to extreme temperatures. All calipers are double sealed to protect piston bores and pressure seals from road debris. High temperature seal material is used to ensure safety at high temperature use. These seals are designed to minimize off brake pad drag on the disc which will increase pad and disc life.
The Radi-CAL caliper is designed with differential piston sizing that minimize pad taper by equalizing piston pressure to the pad backing plate. The caliper pistons are hard anodized aluminum, lightweight and the most efficient material for insulating brake fluid from heat. An easily removable forged bridge support is implemented for quick pad changes without removing the caliper and adds additional strength to the caliper mouth for greater stiffness.
Radi-CAL calipers are designed for larger, wider and taller annulus discs to increase thermal capacity, reduce disc surface temperatures and increase pad and disc life. Directionally loaded anti-rattle springs are featured to avoid pad knock or movement that is normally associated with race calipers. Radi-CAL calipers are hard anodized and then painted with high temperature paint for great looks and corrosion protection.

AP Racing Rotors

AP Racing uses proprietary cast iron alloy material designed specifically for high performance and weekend track use developed by over 40 years of successful racing at the highest levels. This is the same iron metallurgy that is recognized in the Nissan GT-R community as the only acceptable replacement rotor for a high performance GT-R. Many GT-R owners report that the factory brake rotors will last them about one weekend on the race track. After switching to the AP Racing rotors our customers report being able to attend 30+ track days before requiring replacements!
The AP Racing discs in the Radi-CAL big brake kits are directionally curve vane vented for maximum air flow through the disc. AP Racing's unique curve vaned discs are Dyno and race proven as the best designed rotors for optimized cooling. The curve vane rotor acts an air pump pulling air into the center of the rotor and blowing it through the veins and out of the top of the rotor. This act allows the rotor to be self-cooling and work extremely efficiently.
AP Racing's Wide Disc Technology (WDT) is used for the most efficient way to transfer heat to from the disc. Designs using wider discs with larger air gaps increase air flow rates within the discs as proven by AP Racing's FEA, CFD and TSA testing. This goal was achieved while not increasing disc weight or disc stress and decreasing disc temperatures by up to 300 degrees F.
Larger two piece rotors allow for greater thermal capacity with an eye on weight by using aluminum center bells (hats) that minimize the unsprung weight of the overall disc assembly. This means greater heat management without increasing corner weight. It also increases the effect radius (leverage point) of the brake system which creates more brake torque with same braking effort.
Floating rotor assembly hardware is used to allow the brake disc and bell (hat) to move freely radially and axially to allow the disc to expand and contract under thermal stress without out binding or cupping. This allows the disc to stay centered to the caliper and reduces pad knock back. Special tension springs are used to allow this racing technology to be street friendly.
Lightweight billet aluminum bells (hats) are made vehicle specific to match the OE bell (hat design) for a perfect match to the OE hub. For the AP Racing Radi-CAL brakes STILLEN has selected an aircraft grade 6061-T6 billet aluminum. This is the same material used by AP Racing in their aluminum hats. The advantage of 6061-T6 aluminum is that it does not have the same corrosion issues as other aluminum materials such as 2024.
AP Racing and STILLEN have also chosen to use a 12 bolt pattern as opposed to a 10 bolt pattern used by other big brake manufacturers. The 12 bolt pattern allows for additional strength and durability as the torque load is distributed over 12 points as opposed to 10. These additional mounts mean added strength and durability.

Yes, unfortunately they will require 18" wheels or larger. We have other solutions for you that will work with your 17" wheels, though. PM me if you're interested.
