Default Trans fluid...

So I've read so much info, it's hard to know what's what. I think I want to use Amsoil but I've read to use ATF and atd. Which should I use in a mn6?

Also, what Amsoil to use in the diff?

I switched tranny and rear out 1 1/2 yes ago from RP to Amsoil. The RP had been in for almost 4 yrs but looked brand new. Here is the conversation I had with Amsoil rep when I ordered mine:

I use and recommend:
AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid (Product Code ATD1G)
AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 (Product Code SVGQT)

Thanks,
Brad

Hey man -
I need the gallon size of Tranny and 2 qts of the Gear oil. I will need the friction modifier if it is needed. Seems like some gear oil requires it and some don't. Mine is just a stock '02 C5Z rearend. Credit card and shipping info are same, but let me know if you need it again.

Thanks.

Johnny Slagle
Hey Johnny,
Good to hear from you again. The Severe Gear 75w90 comes with friction modifier already in it and extra is not needed for the C5Z. If you get a C6 someday, I'd recommend more modifier but I run that same fluid without extra additive and don't get diff chatter.

My cost for a gal of the Torque Drive ATF (product ATD1G) and 2 qts of the Severe Gear 75w90 (product SVGQT) shipped to your Hickory address is $74.40.

Cheers,
Brad

I am sure the prices have changed but the product codes probably have not. You can pm him for more info. His screen name used to be subdriver, but I think it is C66racing now. HTH.

I would use the ATD Torque Drive fluid in the trans. It can handle the heat better.

For the diff I would use the Severe Gear 75W-90

waddisme beat me to it! Brad can help you order, or you can get it from the links above.

Brad was a pleasure to deal with, and hooked me up with the same products.
- Tranny: Torque Drive ATF (product ATD1G)
- Diff Severe Gear 75w90 (product SVGQT)

I replaced the fluids after one 8-weekend season with no trans/diff coolers, and have no issues to report.

Appreciate the mentions above and did manage to trade PMs with the OP today.

Confirming for those that may be browsing this thread:
AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (Product Code ATD1G)
AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 (Product Code SVGQT)
AMSOIL Slip-Lock Differential Additive (Product Code ADATB)

Note that in this case, I am recommending adding some Slip Lock though the Severe Gear has friction modifier already in it. The OP has a built diff which should have higher diff clutch plate pressure (given his higher HP) than the original C5 diffs had. Like the C6 diff, recommend some extra additive in this case.

^^^Aside from being a Non Pyramid Sale Scheme big company and using 100% synthetic base. I use Redline product offerings, great no nonsense pricing with Free SuperSaver Shipping to my door.

Hey!

Ya, sorry. Changed my screen name a year or two ago to more closely align with my racing (and forum vendorship) which is an LLC. The forum was great about the change. Changed my forum name and every post I had ever made was changed (including all PMs) to the new name. I made a "new" Subdriver account in case anyone hunted for that name but only get about a PM a month to that account.
