Default Radial mount caliper install guru's inside please.

I put a Wilwood SL6/12.88 rotor setup on my Camaro today, the race kit#140 7190.

I went to bed the pads in(Raybestos ST47) I had the cooling ducts taped shut.

As the pads warmed up the left front caliper tried to lockup, got very hot.

I centered the caliper over the rotor with shims per the instructions.

Possible the pads were a little too thick? As I have driven it it seems to be better.

I will take it back down in the AM and make sure the caliper is "square" to the rotor.

Anything else I need to check?

Bleed that brake caliper again and make sure you don't have an air bubble that is expanding when it gets hot.

How is the wheel bearing on that corner?

Bearing is brand new, replaced it when I put the brakes on.

Will bleed it again tomorrow.

Was it tight to get the pad in? Jack corner up can you turn the wheel? Make sure you didn't glaze thr pad/rotor.

My money is on the caliper height being too low. Look inside the 'bridge' area of the caliper and see if you have marks from the rotor rubbing it up inside.

Pads were the same to get in on both sides., wheel turns the same as the other when the car is cold.

Todd, you are THE MAN!!

You were correct, the instructions state to "make the top edge of the pad even with the top edge of the rotor", they were just a "hair" under that....so I figured I would get more pad life that way. I was wrong.

Drivers side caliper has 2 small grooves worn in it from the rotor, you guys think it will be ok? I took a Dremel tool and cleaned it up, shimmed the caliper up and it looks fine now.

The passenger side is the one I installed first and it was fine with no shims, it barely did touch. The passenger side took 1/2 the shims the driver side did.

All is good now, trackday this weekend and they will get tested.

Hate to see it happen but yeah...been doing the Wilwood thing for 21yrs now. There's a reason for that tag line in the sig.

Been there, done that. I think you'll be good. Not like you did a race weekend on it.

*key was you mentioned the heat- rotor expansion gave it away.

Thanks again.

I chose Raybestos ST-47 fronts, ST-43's for the rear, I was running the same setup pad wise with the C6 Vette front brakes.

I also have sealed duct plenums to the rotor.

Thoughts on what I got?

Happy to help, it's what I'm here for.

I'm not familiar with the ST47s so much. The ST43s I am and they do quite well.

The duct work will be a nice addition, just be certain don't run the brakes too cold or they wil chew up the rotors and wear faster than planned.

If you choose to "come over" to the Wilwood Polymatrix line of pads let me know. I think you'll find the pricing competitive. If not; that's cool. Be save and have fun.
