Default toyo r888

I did a search and there were so many mixed reviews, I was hoping to get some newer results. The 305/35-18 nt01 are on backorder for a while... Even nitto can't provide a time frame. I really like the nt01's and 275 front 305 rear setup. Now my only option is r888, are they comparable? Some people say they run low psi (32 hot) and some run really high(42+ hot), any verdict on that ?

Was going to suggest RRs, but they only make CMC/AI sizes. What about BFGs? I thought R888 cycled out quickly and was an overall finicky tire.

So far I like my R888. I have used them on 2 track days. I will have my 3rd track day on friday with ncrc. I run 295/30/18 and 335/30/18 on 18x11 and 18x13 rims. I run them 28 cold and 32-24 hot. They stick like glue when they are hot.

ran 888's for a season on an '03 Z06.

the stick was reasonable, they physically lasted more than 1 season, good track day / HPDE tire.

seemed to work in the wet

you won't set any track record's vs an A6, but, will last through way more heat cycle's

I've been told that the NT01, 555, 888 and RA1 all have the same rubber compound

I was lucky to find some 305 NT01s at www.tires-easy.com

You may want to check out 285/35R18 and 305/35R18 Nitto NT555RII which is another road race tire, of which I've heard good reviews.

The NT01 is better.

Early on the 888 and the NT01 were the same compound but they no longer are.

If you can't get the NT01 the 888 is certainly a reasonable substitute.

I think I'm just going to go with nt01 275's all around. Hopefully it doesn't change the car too much.

I have one track day on the R888's so far and I loved them (275/295s). It was a private event so I got plenty of sessions in and they were consistent through out the day (once dialed in, when they had too much air they were real greasy and I was sliding all over the place). I can't say anything bad but to be fair I haven't ran the NT01's yet.

would you mind sharing your starting cold pressures and what you ran hot?

I start my 888's at 27/28 cold and they get up to around 32/33 hot. Anything higher than 36 then they tend to get greasy.

If I recall correctly, I started them at 30/32 or so and I came in at 40/42hot which made them extremely greasy. I aired them down to 36 hot which made it much better. I've heard that the 888 needs more PSI to work well. As far as cold numbers, I started too high last time so I'll start out with 26/28 my first session and see how it goes this Friday.

I run both the NT-01s and R888s. The R888 has really good grip when new but do wear out quicker than the NT-01s which hold up much longer than any other tire I've tried. I keep the R888s for wet track days since they run well in the rain (The NT-01s are like driving on ice in wet weather). I like hot pressures of 38 front and 36 rear. Those seem to get me the best in tire wear. I start about 10 psi lower unless it is a cold morning, then go to 8 psi lower.
For the NT-01s, I run 275s on square 18" setup. That size is easier to get, and I don't notice much lap time difference with wider rear tires and 17" fronts and the square set up allows me to rotate the tires and get longer tire life. I run the R888s on square 17" setup since I have those wheels to use.

cool, I will try the same. My first event with them I ran them 40 hot as told through the other thread on this forum on R888 (the whole high pressure r888 theory) but didn't like them very much at those pressures.

Corvettes like the 34-36 range hot. Buy a tire PYROMETER for more accurate hot temps.

I have gone through 3 sets of 888s and I tend to run them at less pressure than most....25-26 cold. They seem a little slippery as the pressures go up. The nice part is that I can run them rain or shine, hot or cold and not have to change wheels/tires....more time on the track and less time on the jack.
