Default Been a while...what oil do you use?

I've always ran Mobil 0-40 but I'm thinking of changing to a really high zddp level of oil. I see Mobil 0-50 racing has 1850 ppm compared to just 1000 for 0-40. Mobil says not for street use. Any idea why?

My engine builder switched me to Valvoline VR1 20-50 non synthetic. I like it much better than Mobil1. Holds oil pressure better and you can find it on sale for $3.50 to $3.99 Qt. JD

It's supposed to be bad for catalytic converters. There are environmental concerns too, but if you're catless presumably you don't care about either of those concerns so that's the only way I'd run it. The 0w-40 is a good oil by most accounts, I use it in my Audi's and the Z06.

Virtually no detergents in race oil. so you need to change after each race.
Redline 10W-40 has High ZDDP (what I use)

same. if its a full track day/race, ill go 100% with this oil. if its daily, which is reasonably rare for the car (about to be 100% track), i'll mix this with mobile-1 and a zddp additive.

I use factory-fill BMW 5w-30 full synthetic. It's European Castrol blend, with the good additive package you won't get in Castrol branded oil here in the US. I used to work for BMW, and I still get employee parts pricing, but the price is comparable to other quality synthetic oils. Also, it was designed to be run for approximately 15,000 miles in an engine that regularly sees 230* oil temps. I change roughly every 4000 miles/5 track days (mixed street and track driving). I use factory delco filter.

I live in the northeast! Long Island, in fact. Currently have about 30 quarts of BMW High Performance Synthetic 5w-30 sitting in my garage ready for action!

I just bought the 0-50 Mobil. That 1850 zinc content makes me happy

Not sure what motor your running

I just had my first PDX a couple weeks ago. I had an instructor with good knowledge on LS6's told me to run 15W-50 for the track. He said it was safe and will help with oil temps during track sessions. Z06's typically call for 5W-30 Mobil 1.

We run Comp Cams 15w-50 in all of our cars, street and track. Oil change after every track event. Good oil pressure and superb oil temps.

Ls6s are such good motors you can probably use water for oil

I have a ls3 416
