Default 1/2 mi runway racing....

Not AutoX but VERY fun none the less..... I found that I need a new hood... My flimsy Corvette Creationz hood didn't cut it... but at least I didn't break anything major...

Added 4 mph to my trap speed removing my hood....

Is your hood buckling/folding in that last pic or just image distortion???

Definitely folding.

I watched a red C5 do that with a hood like this as well last year at the Chicago 1/2 Mile.

Wow, I do the ECTA standing mile and have been thinking about hood work. How fast were you able to get up to?

I think the red one I saw last year with the buckled hood was running mid 140's or so.

I'd stay stock (mine was fine at 164mph, but the front/steering got very light) or get a heat extractor type so the air can vent out.

How was the hood attached? And what broke that caused it to go?

It did fold... Not a camera trick... 140 ish... and it buckled twice even after taping it down.
As I pulled into he pits it popped right back into shape... I just removed it altogether fr safety. stock hinges, locks..

I'm curious how the paint looked after it flexed back into its original position.

I've seen this happen a few times. I have the same style hood and my car has seen 180 numerous times and no problem. Where is the lift coming from to pack that much air under there? Did you remove the shroud or make a new one?

You hit on a good point. If you remove the seal at the windshield area, the high pressure area there would add to the pressure already under the hood.

I removed mine so air could escape there and not build up at the hood as much. Is that what you mean?

Yeah thats actually a high pressure zone and you should put it back if you can. You could do a quick string test if you want to confirm.

How does keeping air packed in the hood better than letting it flow out the back?
