The local Fox station in Philadelphia, had the story this morning. I was really glad to hear it, and shocked that Fox Philly carried it. They don't even give the results from Pocono, Dover or NJ Motorsports Park. All tracks that are within 2 hours of the city.

It's clearly good news, but it sounds like he still has a long road to recovery ahead of him.

It would be great to see him at an F1 sometime this year, if he can.

Did not think that was going to turn out well due to the time in coma.

Glad for him & his family.

Call me cynical, but this doesn't sound like much of an improvement in his (largely vegetative) condition.

Folks, I hate to say this, but MS hasn't been in a coma since April, when his media folks stated he was in a "minimally conscious state". So, that part of the announcement isn't, as I understand it, new news.

However, he apparently IS in a state that allows him to leave ICU (I'm assuming he's probably got home care similar to what you would get at a private room in a hospital, minus the nasty septic bacteria). So, I guess that's the good news I'd take out of this.

Have a good one,
Mike

Leaving the hospital "not in a coma" state is not encouraging unfortunately.

A bit more info here:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-27868787

"F1 champion Michael Schumacher has left hospital in Grenoble and is no longer in a coma, his family says.

The 45-year-old has been transferred to Lausanne university hospital in Switzerland, officials there say."

Here is the best article on the subject that I have so far seen:

http://formerf1doc.wordpress.com/2014/06/16/good-news/

I personally doubt that he will ever step foot in a race car... as sad as that is to say.

Tytek,

I just hope he steps foot out of a bed one day. That would be amazing in itself.

Walking will be a monumental challenge for him. There will be a LOT of rehab before then, but if anyone has the will and fight in them to overcome it, Michael is one of them.

Just hoping he hasn't lost short or long-term memories. To survive this and not recognize friends and some family members would be hard on everyone.

One thing is certain...he has enough money to afford the best of care, and that could make all the difference.

Michael Schumacher is Slowly Progressing, Says Wife

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is currently being treated in a rehab clinic near his family home in Lausanne in Switzerland.

Reported by: Indo-Asian News Service

Last updated on Tuesday, 08 July, 2014 22:28 IST

Berlin: Corinna, wife of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, said that her husband's health is making slow but good progress.

In her first public appearance since the skiing accident that left her husband in an induced coma last December, Corinna said that Michael's condition is slowly getting better, reports Efe.

Corinna was smiling and joking while handing out chocolates at a riding event in her native Switzerland.

The former seven-times F1 world champion is currently being treated in a rehab clinic near his family home in Lausanne in Switzerland after leaving Grenoble hospital in France where he had been hospitalised for months after a fatal skiing accident last December which left him comatose.
Pretty remarkable recovery from a fatal accident.

Bad writing aside, I hope the headline is true.

Probably meant to say near fatal... other than that, I am stoked if the news is true. Didn't think he was going to make it.

Just goes to show how much of a badazz Shumi really is.
