Default relocated shock mount

So I'm running my car 1" lower and I know everyone has issues hitting bump stops and causing their car to spin out.

I figured no one sells shorter shocks so why not relocate?

I approximated the motion ratio about 0.7" to 1" wheel travel.

So I cut and welded the shock mount about that much higher up.

Thoughts? This should give me stock compression / droop without going coil - over.

I assume I am not the first to do this....

I've never known anyone to have this problem.

There are tons of shorter aftermarket shocks.

Very interested to see how you did this.

I've been told that one of the reasons corvettes oversteer is because the bumpstop gets compressed in a hard turn, causing the spring rate to increase, and thus loss of traction due to the associated weight transfer.

The only ones in my search that seemed to be shorter were penske, and I'm not rich enough for that lol

Yes the cars do have limited travel. We just installed a set of triple adjustable Penskes and we are within a .25 of am inch from running out of travel. The shocks came with shims so you can adjust ride and not affect travel but the back has no shims because we had to remove all of them and we needed to lower more but can't. We too have been thinking about moving the mounts up. I know some of the older WC corvettes had longer shocks in the rear for this very reason with the mounts moved up and tied into the roll cage.

Bilstien makes different length bodied shocks. Call LG and talk to Anthony.

I saw people posting about the bilstein but there are also pictures showing them as the same length when you go mount to mount.

Maybe a different type?

It's not the easiest to relocate since the body is pretty much directly above it, so I cut the middle of the mount off leaving the sides, moved that piece a bit less than 3/4" up, and welded it in place copying the same angle as it sat stock.

Theoretically I should retain stock travel while being 1" lower.
