Z06 vhs tape says to add an extra qt of oil for track events
I've done this for my first two events. First event I used 5W-30, and my most recent event I went to 15w-50.
Does anyone else do this? Is there anything I need to do for normal street driving after a track weekend? I'd hate to drain it out and change it after 300 miles. But I will if it causes problems elsewhere

I'll let the C5 guys weigh in on the extra quart, altho I've heard of it being 'normal' and I'd think you'd drain that quart out afterwards (don't have to dump the whole pan) if the engine didn't consume it.
In general I'd look at the highest oil temp during the event as to whether I wanted to keep the oil in the car afterwards. I can't say expertly where the dividing line would be, but personally I'd probably dump it if it got over about 270F. It would be wise to have routine oil samples sent out if you keep running the track oil on the street... just to be sure of the oil condition as well as the wear on the engine.
15W50 might be a little steep unless you're running really hot oil temps.

The highest temp I hit was 274F over seven runs. When I saw those temps I began using fifth on the front and back straights (Watkins Glen) instead of cranking it up to 6k rpms.

I leave the extra qt in, but, I don't use my car much on the street. And yes you should definitely run extra qt on the track. If not the oil pump will be starved of oil in turns and you could blow an engine. I think many have learned the hard way.

I run the extra quart all the time and have been for the last 3 years of street / track driving with 20+ events and 15,000 miles. No issues.
Many have done the same.

First off where did you find a vhs instructional tape and how did you play it?
Kidding aside, I always run 1 extra quart in a track ls-6. I call it GM's harbor freight solution to a dry sump.

Thanks gents, I don't drive a ton of street miles, but wanted to check to make sure it wasn't a big deal to leave the extra qt in.

I put 7 quarts of 10W30 in at annual oil change. Drive it to work every day in summer and do about 4 to 6 track events a year. I have been doing this since 2004.

Definitely add the extra quart although you don't need to remove it when driving on the street. I had a DRM Ron Davis Racing radiator with built in EOC and a remote large (1 qt) oil filter installed in both my 97 and 03Z. Total oil capacity with the cooler and remote filter and the extra quart was 9 qts.
