Default Cobalt XR2 Brake Pad Wear - When are they done?

I was getting smoke from the driver side front brakes when I pulled into the pits on my last session yesterday at Mid-O. Stock rotors/calipers. Cobalt XR2 pads.

The pads on the left are new and the used set on the right:

How should I determine when the pads are ready to be replaced?

Thanks

Thicker pads are better insulators. Thinner pads send more heat through to the fluid. So............I would think your pads have AT LEAST one (or two) more track events left before you have to change them out
